John, which is me, notices that most people put all their interest in the bible rather than putting their interest in the Lord. They're many who can tell every verse in the bible, but does that make you a Christian? Absolutely not.

Also, people choose their favorite Church rather than to choose to serve a single God. Does it matter what Church you go to?

I constantly hear how great this Pastor is, and how lame that Pastor is. Does it matter how good the Pastor is, or does it matter if what he says support the Lord?

Before claiming to be a Christian, seek within your soul for the love, faith and respect you have for the Lord.

John.

Yes, I asked a question. Observe.

You are absolutely right!

It doesn't matter what church you go to, how "good" the Pastor is, or how many bible verses you know, that I don't.
What matters is that you are living for the Lord, the author of grace. And glorifying him in all that you do!

Excellent point; I hope you message opens the eyes of some blind "Christians" out there. Kudos to you!

EDIT: Oh, and yes: I AM a Christian! ;)

I agree and disagree with you. I agree that your pastor, church, and knowledge of the Bible aren't as important as serving and believing in The Lord. Personally, I don't go to church at all. Instead I make time to study the Bible, and manage a Christian group on Myspace.

I disagree with you about putting interrest in the Bible. I think it's important to study the Bible. Without it, what kind of Christians would there be? None. We wouldn't know much, if anything, about God, Jesus, the commandments.... The Bible has everything a Christian needs to know. It's like going to take your driver's test without reading the manual or ever bothering to learn the rules of the road. It just doesn't work that way.

My dad always said "going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than going into the garage makes you a car."
You are absolutely right, a lot of people have put so much energy into memorizing Bible verses and praising their church that they tend to lose sight of what a Christian truly is.

Yes, I am. And all of those people who criticize pastors and pick favorite churches are too.

Hear me out for a second

Being a Christian means you believe in The Lord and His Son. All of those people you just described are Christians too, they're just not growing in their faith.

Yes, it does matter which church you go to. Different denominations teach different things - many of them wrong. Why would you go to a church if you thought they were teaching the wrong thing? And, how would you know unless you discussed these topics with others? What's wrong with being interested in the Bible and debating it, as long as the debates are charitable?
I'm Catholic, and my protestant friend who I debate with all the time says "Steal sharpens steal". I like that, and we enjoy our debates - AND, we both love the Lord. That is a given.

I am a Christian. I see your point. Consider that there are a lot people who are Christian but have never read the bible, which is sacry to me. Those are the people who focus on Pastors in my experience. It doesn't matter what Church you go to if the bible is being taught there.

The bible is the written word of God. To put your interest in the bible is to put your interest in God.
