I'm curious, because if He died for our sins, then we should have nothing to worry about... right? It doesn't matter if we commit sin, because Jesus has already paid for them. (Does that mean I already have a ticket to Heaven?)

I'm not a Christian, I just want to understand your logic.

Don't worry be happy. I have always bucked the system, I have never believed in the story of a white robe that I dirtied and some guy came and with his blood made my dirty white robe sparkling white again (I am a woman, blood is a worthy adversary) any way I also always felt that I'll take care of my own bloody mistakes, I'm woman enough. I haven't done any thing so bad that I can't be forgiven by myself. So, in growing up in this world I searched for the answers to these questions that others seemed to think I needed saving from myself. I don't need to be saved. I need to have an open mind, a generous heart and the ability to reach out to others with love. Others have found other paths and we all are responsible for ourselves. I do believe that it is what we human beings insist on believing, that is killing us all. The time for real and open debate on spiritual matters is at hand. It is time for all of us to act like the adults we claim to be and allow everyone there own thoughts and beliefs and the right to live freely, instead of insisting that we know what God wants. God doesn't want anything - She already has it and if She didn't, She'd make it. This idea that God needs us to worship him is a man made idea that makes no sense. The animals, birds and bugs do a hell of a lot better job of honoring and worshiping God then we humans. But then we are still in the learning phase.

Jesus did atone for all of our sins, and has given everyone the free gift of the resurrection.
As for paying for all of our sins, yes he did that as well, the question is weather we will accept his gift to us. In order to receive his atonement for our sins we must repent and come unto him. This is most often referred to as being Baptized,(taking his name upon us, and entering into a covenant with him). And then striving to keep his commandment's. One of the commandments is to repent so that becomes a life long program, as we really do not stop sinning, just improve our life's over time and stop some sins that we used to commit through the repentance process.

So through a little bit of work and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, he will give us the grace we need to return to our Father some time after death.

Check out the link in the source list, see how the LDS church is working to provide the critical ordnances for everyone who has died with Baptism (and other ordnances) so they can also receive this grace from Jesus, if they choose to while in the spirit awaiting the judgment.

I really like the example that no1home2day posted .

actually your question is one that is asked a lot by people who are not Christians- and I will explain it simply.
1- yes Jesus did die for people's sins- however He did not die so we can continue in our sin.
2- when we are saved we are free from sin, not free to sin.
3- if we could continue in our sin and go to heaven, and not be a changed person then would not be a free gift of grace- it would be cheap grace. It cost Jesus His life of us to be forgiven. It is a gift- and to receive that gift- you have to admit that you are a sinner, and ask Jesus to make you more like Him everyday.
4- this does not mean that we never sin after accepting Christ- but grace helps us live our lives for Christ -
5- salvation is MUCH more than a free ticket to heaven- it is a changed life- in which we should be desiring every day to become more like Him.
6- Do not take me wrong here- salvation is free, there is absolutely nothing that we can do to earn it- however once we admit we are a sinner and ask Jesus to be the payment for our sins, we should desire not to sin- and because Jesus rose from the grave- we too, have victory over sin and death- but we must come to Him, it is not automatic. Does that help?

Hello Phoenix,
Jesus died for our sins in the fact that he was a ransom in exchange for what mankind lost in Eden.

A perfect man that represented future mankind "adam" had lost everlasting life in a paradise earth, by failing to live up to gods laws, He and his wife Eve were punished by having to grow old and die and be kicked from their paradise home, in which all was provided for them. They in a sense chose to do things there own way instead of Gods.

Mankind inherited sin and death from adam. (imperfection & old age)

A perfect man was required to live and die as a ransom to replace what a perfect man lost.
Jesus succeeded by living a human life and being tested to the full during his life course and hence fulfilled the ransom requirement.
That is a a sacrificial gift.but that alone does not save us. the way to eternal life has been opened up to us, but now we must put faith and practice in the principles that Christ taught to prove we too can follow gods laws as individuals unlike Adam and eve.
We must apply christ teachings and hold to those teachings no matter how hard or difficult it seems at times.
So just a "belief" in Christ is not enough,We must actually work towards our salvation.
peace

Try to look at it like this:

Let's say you were a judge, and a case came to your court in which a person were guilty of something very serious (it doesn't matter what it is for this illustration).

The trial demonstrated beyond any shadow of a doubt that the person was, indeed, guilty.

Now, for some reason, you want to pardon this person.

If that person (by his words or attitudes) state categorically that he intends to continue his crime, could you - as the judge - WISELY grant him a pardon? (note the word "wisely". Of course you could still grant the pardon, but that wouldn't be wise.)

Now think about God in His position as judge over all.

He so desparately wants to pardon everybody. The Scripture even says, "God doesn't want ANY body to perish" ...

But if we refuse to quit the crime (ie sin), He is in no position to be able to wisely extend that pardon to us.

There are certain pre-requisites, WITHOUT WHICH God can NOT pardon someone.

Please note, that these items (i'm about to list) do not automatically grant us a pardon, it only puts us in a position in which God is ABLE to pardon us.

Again, think in terms of a human trial in court, and you can understand a little better what God is facing:
1. We need to actually admit our guilt.
2. We need to be ready and willing to QUIT our crime.
3. We need to be ready and willing to sincerely and seriously apologize to the victim and, if necessary, make restitution.
4. We need to TRUST the judge.
5. We need to actually ACCEPT the grace and pardon the Judge is offering.

Do you see how that by doing these things, that would not necessitate receiving a pardon, but without these things a pardon is not possible?

In the same way, we tie God's hands, so to speak when we are not willing to meet these requirements.

Note, again, that we can not earn God's grace. We truly are guilty. We have lied, taken what's not rightfully ours, etc, etc. We have, basically, rebelled against God's rightful authority, and committed high treason against Him by trying to usurp what's rightfully His.

God isn't holding anything against us. He's more than willing to forgive. But until we meet these requirements, He is not able to forgive.

By the way, the REASON He can forgive us, is because - as you pointed out in your question - Jesus already paid the penalty for our sins.

Wow. Kind of a bitchy way to put it. You do have to accept him and believe he died for your sins, you have that part down. But, at the same time, you have to live FOR God. You can't go around being hateful and sinful, killing people or stealing, and committing adultry. You must try to live right. That is what people have mixed up about Christianity. If you mess up, it doesn't mean your entire life is down the drain. God will always open his heart to you. But only if you are really changing. You can't be an atheist your entire life and then on your deathbed say, okay I believe in God now. It just doesn't go that way, you have no relationship with Jesus, so your words mean nothing. You have to know him and if you know him, you are not going to be living hatefully and spiteful against other people. At least not all the time.
Make sense?

patscool: it's only a cuss word because man made it one!!! i wasn't cussing anyone! either way you're right, but hey, it WAS a BITCHY way to put it. never said i was perfect!

Just because Jesus died for sin doesn't mean that payment is automatically credited to everyone's account That requires repentance and acceptance of Christ as Lord.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the FREE GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Notice it's a free gift. If someone pays for a gift, you still have to accept the gift, or you don't have it. What would happen if you didn't open your presents next Christmas and instead say, "I don't believe they're mine".

If you want to accept the free gift, check out www.godlovestheworld.com

P.S. The idea is to not START worrying about sin, but to STOP worrying about sin. You are forgiven. Declared NOT GUILTY. Sure, Christians work at pleasing God and not sinning, because we love Him, but it's not as a way to stay out of Hell.

Jesus died to pay the penalty for your sins but you get no benefit from that until you repent that is turn your back on your sins and you ask to be forgiven yourself.
