Yes, I fully agree with you!
A deep sorrow for sin needs to be known.
The price Jesus paid for our sin was not cheap.
He paid with His own precious blood.

Romans 10:9
If thy shalt Confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and Believe in thine Heart that GOD Rasied HIM from the Dead, thy Shalt be Saved.
This is basics.
If you Believe in Who Jesus Said HE was, and ask HIM to come into your Heart and Save You (basically what you are doing when you Confess Jesus as Lord)
you get Recreated (spirit is Born-Again).
I have been Told that to "Repent" is to Change your way of Thinking.
You Really have to be Born-Again THEN Filled with the Holy Spirit if your planning on Walking in Holiness (not sinning anymore as far as GOD is Concerned).
We can Change our Minds and Ask Jesus to Save us.
We can Change our Minds and try to stop sinning.
Turning towards GOD for Salvation is the Best Part of Repenting (changing your mind)!
After your Saved, Jesus will help You to Stop Sinning.

The much more severe problem , that I see here in America and all over the world, is that people want a quick fix and are looking for a new age religion, that will allow them to serve God(so they think!)and carry on doing whatever they want to in their daily lives. Like these books , that are called "conversations with god" and have just enough scripture in them to convince someone looking for God, that they have now found Him. It is a subtle and slow process of brain washing.

some ppl dont know how to pray so others try to coach them. when they tell them to say this prayer they are not trying to do what only God can do. and your salvation is something as simple as confessing, repenting, and believing. once you take those steps toward salvation then you will want to strive for a Godly walk. some ppl try to make salvation complicated.

you see, for you have eyes and ears.
Matthew 13:15
For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.
The "newer" bibles as you are seeing, NIV, NKJV, some KJV and most of the others are all being changed ever so slightly so we do not follow the word of G_D. These are known as the Gnostic versions that the Catholic Church hid in their basement some few hundred years ago cause there was such an uproar when they were wrote. As they were not proper.
And to those that say its okay or no big deal, then explain these passages:
Deuteronomy 12:32
What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
Proversbs 30:5-6
Every word of Eloah is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Revelation 22:18-19
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, YHWH shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, YHWH shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Yes the false gospel goes by many names though. The Bible is one of the many names. Koran, Qu'ran, Torah, Dianetics, and Mormon are some of the others.

The false gospel going around is not the one asking people to pray and ask Jesus to forgive their sins.
The false gospel is when a latter day prophet, who is already married tells us that "God told me I'm supposed to marry both of your daughters."
If you want to see the real gospel which is available to "whosoever", see the link below.
