I take diazepam and have done for 18 months but they are only really meant for short-term use and i am now addicted. This causes complications down the line! The best way to go is natural meds like valirum extract, lavender smellies a warm bath and a warm drink of milk before bedtime. You should never really take over the max dose of any benzo, but yes, the more you take the longer you sleep SOMETIMES, but not always. Overdosing on benzos is not good!! I've taken 40 5mg of diazepam in one night once and still woke up the next day at a normal time! Currently I'm searching for a more appropriate sedative to use and have been reccommended several different options by peops on here so i'm off to the doc to talk to him. I suggest you do the same! Good luck, sleep deprivation is a horrible thing......i know!

Don't take anything. Tylenol PM and Benedryl, both make me hyper. What makes many people sleep could have you walking the floors and unable to relax all night, even to read.

Play a game I just made up. The last one awake, gets to wake up the first one to fall asleep. Then, you two have a contest to see who can stay awake the longest. Of course, you win. Winner get to wake up the second person to fall asleep. Do this again and again. At least you won't be lonely, and who knows, you may even fall asleep.(Tell about this new game you heard of before anyone goes to sleep.)

If that doesn't work, this used to work for me. (You need a good imagination.) Pretend that you need to get up in five minutes to get ready for school. There is nothing like having to get up that made me sleepy.

By now, you probably think I've lost it. Actually I am very creative, a skill which I developed during many sleepless nights.

take a book you like with you, preferrably one you havent read, and when you all go to sleep, read it if youre not tired, and after 10 minutes or maybe 20 you should be tired, but it has to be a book that's interesting. some people are able to sleep better after drinking warm milk. you could also try not taking any naps, and in the future, get up really early the day before so you'll be awake longer. if not warm milk, try tea. id suggest sleep aides but theyre very dangerous, so that's a red zone no.

EDIT:

no no no stop dont listen to all of these people who say take meds or "natural" pills! youll risk your life/health. you could become dependant. the BEST thing to do is perhaps hot tea, or warm milk, or a book!

If you are that anxious about sleeping at a friends house, don't sleep over there. Trust your instincts. There is something there that is causing your anxiety. If anyone tells you how to go to sleep and something bad happens to you while you're sleeping, you'd not ever forget that. Do yourself a favor and listen to your body. It may be your guardian angel is telling you it's not safe for you to sleep there and that's why you feel the way you do. Pay attention to that feeling, that's your instincts.

“my partner is a little overweight, before we got the memory foam mattress top I was always annoyed every time my partner gets out of bed to do something because I would always wake up and not get back to sleep…but on a memory foam mattress top, cant even feel a thing…the damn thing is so stable, cant even fell my partner moving or breathing…conforms to any body type which results to less pains and numbness or just eliminates them…in our case it only lessened them maybe caused by our old age…but it has been a fantastic experience all the way…”

You can take a natural supplement called Melatonin. Its found like in the vitamin isle. Your body already makes melatonin. Just take one like right before you lie down. Then you should fall asleep realitively fast and have a natural night of sleep.

Try a quick walk befor you go to bed or maybe read to relax. Try to avoid coffee or sodas and food an hour before bedtime. But it sounds like this has been going on for awhile so you may need to see a doctor about it.

watch really boring tv like golf or repetitive infomercials or read something boring like the dictionary. or you could eat before you sleep and get a food coma. maybe youre just excited that you get to go to a sleep over, thats why you cant sleep.

Try taking benedryl or another antihistamine. These have a sedating effect. If you take a few doses throughout the day, you should sleep easily at night.
