I know this doesn't belong in the R&S section but I need answers . . . I have been asked to go and give blood and have always wanted to and have tried several times, but have chickened out each time. So I'm putting it to a vote, should I or not?

How is a vote going to help you overcome your cowardice?
All right, here's your moral support: buck up and do the right thing. You obviously know what it is, why do you need strangers to tell you? After all, what sane person is going to say "no, don't donate blood"?

Yes. I have a very difficult time donating, but they tell me I have a relatively rare blood type. What I've found is if I bring an interesting book and read the whole time, then I do okay. If I don't, then I get sweaty, quesy, and light-headed.
Another thing that might help is to have a friend to talk to (don't do it together, but one at a time) the friend can stand by you and talk, then you can do the same. It's a good experience and can save lives.

Give it a try. The only pain is a little stick when they put the needle in. Even if you discover you are one of those that can't give blood, it won't hurt anything. And you'll feel good for maybe helping save a life.

Yes, blood donation is badly needed. I used to go 4 times a year until health complications prevented me from doing so. You could save a person's life.

Go. They might not even be able to take your blood. But more blood is always needed, because people are too afraid to donate.
Besides, the only way to get over your fear is to face it.

Yes. The pain is minimal and doing so saves lives. I am going again once the waiting period for new tattoos is up (6 months I believe).

Imagine a loved one needing a blood transfusion and you weren't the right type. You desperately needed a blood donor to step forward. That is your answer.
If you imagine you are saving a loved one's life when you are donating, it doesn't hurt at all.

Go ahead and give blood .. you never know who you will be helping out! It could be your mother or best friend or your child. Give out of the goodness of your heart!
