1 common problem is the fan relay....and man its in a rough spot......its behind the passenger headlight assembly with the headlamp out.......look to the lower left corner where there is a crack in the black pastic to the back of the front bumper cover...a little box about 1.5 x 1.5 inches...and about 1/4 inch thick...should have 4 or 5 wires to it...there are 2 different ones thats the most common problem...at the chrysler dealer about $70 for the part......the cooling fans are also a common problem...its 1 of the 2...........if you have a test light probe the wires that go to the fan with the engine up to tempeture.....if there is power the fan is bad...... if you have no power the relay is bad....

Call the service dept at your local dealer, there's a low key recall for the coolant fan motor. They will need mileage and V.I.N., Seen this happen to a lot of the grand's, the grands fan will not turn on until 220 deg's. As the other answers state check system out, relays, fusees, etc.. but if its under the recall it may be free and the fan's big buck's.

Awesome posting by sprinkles. We have had the relay replaced 3 times in our Jeep. The fan once in addition. as it was starting to draw higher current than the relay could handle. The last time they put in a heavier duty relay at their cost as it had been less than 1 year since it was last replaced.

ase_mastertech 101 could not have explained it any better. Been through 3 relays and 1 fan on our '99 JGC. Give him ten points.

yeah i think the switch that turns the fan on automatically when your car gets too hot isn't working right. my dad had the same problem with his 1991 jeep about 2 or 3 weeks ago but he fixed it by putting a switch by the steering wheel that turns the fan on when you need to turn it on. so basically it might be that the sensor to turn on the fan isn't working that well...

it wont kick on til about 220 or so, easy test, turn the ac on to see if the fan comes on. if it does that fans not bad so now let the temp come up and see if it finally kicks on, if it doesnt come on once the gauge reaches 230 or so then it could be a temp switch. because if it comes on with the ac the relay is good

Could be a bad fan clutch.
