There is a certain level of competitiveness between all the branches of the military. It is completely normal... inside, though, all those guys know they are part of one brotherhood.

Well, your history is a little shaky. Despite the versions in Hollywood movies, Europe was retaken by British, French, Canadian, Australian, Hungarian, Polish and Russian soldiers, in addition to Americans. And historically, the Marines have been the first to engage the enemy in many battles, especially in island warfare or other amphibious landings. The Marines are a relatively small force which has sustained a far higher level of casualties than any of the other services. With all due respect to your great uncle and the many other fighting men and women, the Marines have earned their proud reputation.

Risk dosent make a soldier or Marine any better, tough training does. The Marines have the toughest.

Don't really understand anything you said in the first part, but as for the arrogance, so is every other branch. I believe a certain degree of arrogance is a GOOD thing. Sure there's a rivalry among the branches, but once they step out onto the field, they're all on the same team with their game faces on.

The invasion of Normandy was carried out by Marines -- they were just called naval infantry back then. And my dad landed in Normandy on D-Day.... so I take his word for it.

The current Marine Corp got its mission defined by the National Security Act of 1947.

And as to the rest -- it's unit pride. They want to call themselves the best -- just like everyone else wants to call their unit the best. What harm does that do?

all soldiers are hero's. this is not worth bickering about. don't dignify that kind of ignorance with your time or attention. have a good day, and God bless America.
