1] what shade of red, and what shade of aqua? What shade is the red in your dress, and how much of it is red?
Be sure to compare shades side by side, before you buy a lot of stuff.
2] you could try combining colors in bouquets, and making bridesmaids all blue or all red. [ also consider putting his birth month flower, and your birth flower, or just both your favorites.]
3] spring blues - aqua, turquoise, periwinkle, ice blue, powder blue, sky, some gray-blues.
4] spring reds - deep rose, raspberry, cherry red, burgundy, and crayola red.
5] which shades actually look good on people? I used blue at my wedding [ husb favorite ] because all my bridesmaids were blonde, and my favorite is yellow - not a good combo.
6] use white or ivory table covers, and mix the colors in the centerpieces.
7] what is the theme? Different shades may go better with one theme than another.
8] look at a lot of color charts before you go furthur.
9] what color is the church decor? You don't want red dresses with a maroon background!

Although I've never heard of this combination before, I think you can pull it off. If your dress has red, you can still have red bridesmaids dresses, unless your dress is all red, then that would be a little odd. If you go with red bridesmaids dresses, you can have a hint of aqua in the flowers or you can have them wear a nice sash or bow around the waist. Or, you can even have the girls spring for a nice aqua necklace or bracelet of some sort. There's lots you can do without having too much aqua or red or any color for that matter. Better yet, you can play it even safer and have black bridesmaids dresses and have aqua or red in their flowers. Black looks so classy. That's what I'm using. Plus you nor your bridesmaids will have to worry whether red or blue looks nice on them or shows off their unpleasant areas(i know i lot of people get picky about this!) Hope this helps!!

I'd be careful with red and aqua. It doesn't sound very good, but I'm not looking at it right now, so maybe it is.
I would pick one main color, and then do small accents with the other.
I think aqua should be your main color, since it's a spring wedding. Maybe have your girls wear aqua dresses and hold red roses. You aren't going to find any aqua flowers, so have red flowers and aqua accents (maybe jewels, or stone for the vases)

How about having them have an aqua sash? Then the gown can be any color you like and still have the aqua or a red sash like your dress. I'd go with a nice neutral color, black or champagne with the accenting sash.
Though I had electric blue/aqua bridesmaids dresses and everyone loved them. They looked great--so vivid.

I agree with most everyone here that you are using 2 very strong colors, and they most likely aren't going to play together nicely. Sometimes just because it's a fave color doesn't mean it's going to work for a wedding together. Here's a thought:
Your bridesmaids in gowns of soft gold with a sash of the aqua blue. Your gown in either ivory or white with gold as your accent color (beading and/or embroidery). Then add in the brilliant reds in your flowers. If you are having a flower girl put her in an aqua dress carrying a golden basket with the red flowers. If you are going to use a floral wreath for her head, make sure she gets golden ribbons down the back. She can scatter red rose petals.
For decorating your reception venue use blue floodlights on the walls for a spectacular lighting choice. On the tables use irridescent votive holders with battery operated red tea lights - they give such an awesomely strong color. Use lots of red flowers and then add sea glass in shades of blues and golds/amber and aquas in the vases. Use white or ivory table linens and use red and aqua napkins (on alternating tables, not on the same table). Use gold accents as well, in ribbons, bowls, baskets, etc. Don't go overboard with gold glittery types though, that can come off as tacky if you use too much.
You can use the colors you want, just be careful in how you do it.
PS - Think of a more 'nude' color for shoes for the party though - trying to match the golds may be difficult and not look so nice. You can also find them jewelry with red accents!

Can't you have the girls wear aqua and have the guys wear a red vest? Personally I think the color combo is going to look patriotic even if the color blue is lighter and brighter.
My friend wore the prettiest aqua dress that sort of looked like this one:
http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_bycolor_detail.jsp?stid=1575&sid=12960&cfid=65
The dress was lighter in color than showen above and was beautiful!! It didn't look like a sea of blue at all.

I would suggest doing mix and match outfits for the bridesmaids. They could wear red dresses with aqua sashes or aqua dresses with red sashes and red flowers. There are lots of dresses on davidsbridal.com where you can choose the sash colors, that's what I've been looking at. Those are tough colors to match, but you can do it. Good luck!

Maybe you could do cream or light tan bridesmaid dresses with aqua accents and red flowers. Or a light tan bridesmaid dress with aqua and red accents. The cream should keep your wedding from looking like a 4th of July party.

Those are interesting colors...
Sounds to me that they would be looking more patriotic.
The best bet would be to make your bridesmaid dresses either red or the aqua blue.
Best of hopes to you and congratulations on your wedding!

You could do the bridesmaids in aqua with red sashes and red bouquets - or you can add a third "offsetting" color that will tone it down - a plum would go, as well as ivory/off white.
