a party with parents from the school she teaches at. Upon repeated requests on what to bring the hostess continues to tell us to bring ourselves. I would still like to bring something but am quite sure she has thought of everything? We've thought of the typical things(wine, flowers, ect.) but would like to something a little more unique, maybe even a cute little gift for the little girls that will be there. Any Ideas??? Thanks!!!!!

Bring a small houseplant - this way the hostess doesn't have to look for a vase for flowers. Or bring a gift certificate to the movies or a restaurant they'd like.

As for the girls, if you know of something they're interested in, get them something pertaining to that. Otherwise, some gift shops are doing lollipop bouquets - they're bunches of lollipops laid out to look like an armload of flowers. If you can't find a place that would do them, make your own - get some brightly colored lollipops (like DumDums) and gather them into a small, pretty vase, (you can often find tiny pretty ones at the dollar store) and tie a bright ribbon around the vase and there you go!

The hostess has apparently planned the party already and bringing a dinner item would not fit in with her plan. A hostess gift is a good idea as long as the other guests do not feel they should have brought something. I probably would just send her a serious "Thank-you note" (afterwards)

Here's the answer you seek:

Bring your digital camera. Take pictures during the event -don't be annoying, just get some shots. Give no clue as to your intent.

Later, download your pix to the computer and burn a CD, or just make paper copies and put them in a little presentation book -and send them as a thank you.

As a "backup," go ahead and put a bottle of nice wine in the trunk. If you see other people brought stuff, that's when you say, "Oh my! I almost forgot!" and go bring in the wine.

OK?

If you know the hostess fairly well, why not bring her something that she likes like a book or a CD. For the girls, you could bring sparkling apple cider so that they can be "grown up" and drink champagne. (if that's acceptable for their age and stuff)

If wine, candy or flowers don't make it for you, there are plenty of hostess gifts available. Try any of the bed, bath, linens places or Pier 1 for something special.

A basket of cheese is always welcome. What you bring does not have to be consumed at the party. It is a gift for the hostess.

I would suggest bringing something to eat - A small cake, fruit salad or even pasta salad is great. However, if you are looking for what to bring for the girls attending...It totally depends on their age! Food items could be little cookies, cupcakes with their names on it....Older girls, in their teenage years may like gift cards, or other items that interest teenage girls.
