A dishonorable discharge is pretty much reserved for people that were convicted of a felony during their service. With a DD, a person is NOT eligible for VA benefits of any type, may not wear the uniform etc. Since they would also have a felony on their record, they would have to deal with those issues as well; difficulty getting employment and housing for instance.

When you are dishonorably discharged from the military, it means you broke the laws under which all military has to live by...This will be on your record and is most often frowned upon....It is almost like having bad credit only with the government.

A DD is the end of your military career and any or all benefits you may have been entitled to. Since many DD have criminal reasons behind them, you may also end up facing criminal charges for the behavior. Since the charges would be brought from the military, these would be federal charges and, if convicted, you would be a felon with. Convicted felons are not allowed to vote, own firearms, are not eligable fore federal education loans of any type and face a multitude of challanges. DD's carry a heavy stigma and often the person discharged will face tough odds for getting good jobs and into many colleges. I sincerely hope you are asking out of curiousity and not because this is something you could be facing.

Dishonorable discharges are handed down for what the military considers the most dishonorable of conduct. This type of discharge may be rendered only by conviction at a general court-martial for offenses such as desertion, rape, or murder, calling for dishonorable discharge as part of the sentence.
With this characterization of service, all veterans' benefits are lost, regardless of past honorable service. This type of discharge used to carry a heavy stigma, having made the obtainment of gainful post-service employment extremely difficult.

Matt,any answer to this is bad.A DD(Dishonorable Discharge) is a stain that can't be removed.Any job worth having is off limits,The recipient of a DD can not be seen at a VA hospital.It's like having a Felony record following you for the rest of your life.

My moms new boyfriend says he was DD and don t have DD-124 paperwork. Is this something you don t get when you are DD d from the military? I am trying to find out his background because shady things I am noticing and I cannot find anything of a military background and neither can any of my military friends.

When you get a DD from the military you better have a plan. Like going to college to become an entrepreneur so you can work for yourself or be prepared to lie and not tell the place you are seeking employment with that you were ever in the military. The bad thing is that it's a form of discrimination and there is nothing you can do about it.

You get a big black mark on your record. It might be hard to get a job, get credit.
