When I run out of the ointment that I got at the tattoo parlor, what is the best lotion to use? I read the active ingredient and its petroleum should i just go get some Vaseline and use it?

(tomarrow will be a week with it)

Don't use Vaseline; ew.
I would honestly just use Aloe Vera, that works.

Never ever ever use Vaseline or any type of ointment such as Neosporin (and especially not the Tattoo Goo junk some shops sell) - I can't even begin to stress this enough! As far as lotions go avoid Lubriderm and even the Vaseline line of lotions because the recent changes in their ingredients have caused allergic reactions in some people (I can personally attest to that) who were using them on new ink. I've also heard a lot about allergic reactions to A&D ointment. Use an unscented white lotion or bag balm. Hope this helps!

Use antibiotic ointment. Lotion will dry it out if it is not healed. Vaseline does not have anything in it to protect from infection. Remember a tatoo is like an open cut.

No, use an unscented white lotion. Vaseline wont allow your tattoo to breath if you use that because it's so thick but the ointment given to you has other ingredients that are good for tattoos also. No vaseline or neosporn is what my tattoo artist told me. He sells Lubriderm non greasy white unscented lotion in his shop. It worked wonderfully.

It's gonna sound silly, but get some A+D Ointment. It helps with the itch and keeps it from drying out too much. I used it and I won't use anything else. Helped the ink stay a lot better than vaseline too.

non fragrance lotion use thin layers when applying, NO VASELINE I've just got one and have been using a product called H2Ocean got it from the shop helps with the healing process and keeps the germs away. If you got the ointment from shop go and get more.

Get some Aquaphor at Target/CVS/wherever. Wash tat 3-4 times a day with antibacterial soap , pat dry with paper towel never use a bath towel or hand towel. Apply light coat of Aquaphor and dab off excess with paper towel.

all my tats have healed great with that regime. Congrats on new tattoo!!!!!

I found Vaseline to be fine for a week old tattoo, had the tattoo been new I would have suggested "Preparation H" hemorrhoid cream I kid you not!
This was recomended to me by a Tattooist working in Melton Mowbray, got my stomach and ribs tattooed swelled up,slapped on some Prep H and voila !

Use Lubriderm-non scented, just plain old regular lotion. Vaseline will take the color out.
