A police officer has a very busy shift in most cities. Arresting people for drugs is an important part of keeping the city safe. The police are not going to be able to keep people from getting killed unless there was a police officer in every home and on every street corner (not practical or desired). The police have nothing to do with people living in poverty and I am at a loss to what you would want them to do.

What exactly is your question? You think police waste their time arresting people with drugs? The same people that break into houses and cars to get money to buy drugs? And if you call the police because your neighbors kids are having a loud party and you have to work the next morning, they shouldn't do anything?
As far as people who continue to drink and drive, your problem is with the court system, police don't punish people for their crime, police don't even decide if someone is guilty.
As far as people living in poverty, I agree there are. But what are the police supposed to do? Give them some of their hard earned money?
There are several arms of the government. It seems like your upset at the court, and the local governments handling of the homeless? Yes the police are always the ones people call for help. But they deal with criminal matters. Maybe you should call your local leaders and tell them that you would like to see more done int he way of opening a soup kitchen or homeless shelter?

I'm not sure that I truely understand your question, however, in relation to this questioning comment, We don't always have the privilege of making those decisions ourselves. A good portion of laws have been and are most likely to continue to defend the criminal. It use to be that we are innocent until proven guilty. Now, we are guilty until proven innocent, which usually depends on the amount of money we pay for an attorney. That's not to say that police officers don't do what they can, while they can either. Sometimes people don't allow the police to offer opportunity to submit. Poverty is the root to crime in all societies. Drugs and parties etc.. , are no excuse to give up on ourselves. Those items are for those who just don't have the desire or self intitiative to excel in other areas of opportunity. Yes, some cops bad, some good I agree. I am one, but wasn't always one.

Your not to smart are you. Breaking up a house party can be just as important. That is where many under age KIDS are drinking and doing drugs. Then many of them endup doing stupid thins like Driving drunk and killing them selves or other people.
Breaking up a party can prevent that. There is a reason the laws are there. For stupid people.

I can relate to what you're saying, but some cops have died to protect the public, so let's give them credit. In my hometown, back in the 1980s, a crazy guy (with a legally bought gun) was walking down the streeet, ready to shoot up the high school, when he was stopped by a police officer. After the police was shot in the gut (he didn't die), the crazy guy was shot and killed, thus saving many lives at our local high school.
drugs should be legal, and I know what you mean on that point.

cops dont choose what they do, they get called and told that there is a 'disturbance call' then they go to the location. its not like cops roam around looking for every party they find to ruin your fun
i hate people who dont respect cops, and what are they supposed to be doing? theres not a shootout evey night that they have to get involved in, also, cops have absolutly nothing to do with poverty, what can cops do about that?

I agree with you that breaking up a house party seems minimal compared to the other issues you cited.
Sometimes, neighbors are too uptight and when called, the police have to show up and if the party is rowdy, and its past a 10pm, sorry, but they have to break it up.

...The Police (not the rock-group) are empowered by "YOU". The public in the community that "they" serve in VOTE and organize each City and Town across America... The Chief of Police is an "appointed" Officer by the Mayor or City or Town governors... if "YOU" don't like what "they" are doing... make an appointment with the Chief and express yourself...That's His/Her sworn duty to act upon... If you have "others" of like mind... the better. but to "whine" and "rag" on a forum like this will change nothing... (and... if you are doing "things" that are attracting the Police...well, you only have your self to blame)... those who are being killed and living in poverty, help them... it's the civic-duty of all of us to help... Your City or Town government would welcome your tenacious help.

Police do a lot, for example:
Stop speeders to make monthly quota
Make sure donut shops are secure
Harass anyone who doesn't seem to be a threat to them
Test donuts for toxicity
Joke with each other about the last deadly accident
Let each other go when caught in illegal activities
Receive their pay provided by our taxes
See your friendly neighborhood officer does a lot to our communities.
