Unmarried women include divorced women, although I'm not sure how many divorced women are anxious to catch the bouquet. I think that engaged women should exclude themselves since they already know that they will be getting married in the near future. Remember, the superstition goes whoever catches the bouquet will be the next to get married.

Why is it important? Do you want to catch the bouquet, or are you worried about who is "supposed" to be catching it at your wedding?
A divorced or engaged woman is unmarried. The purpose of etiquette is to allow people to get along in many different circumstances. So if you want to catch the bouquet, or if a divorced woman wants to try for it at yours, go for it! Have some fun! Enjoy each other's company, and don't sweat it. Be happy. Life's far too short to spend your time worrying about such small things.

Technically, it is all single/unmarried women. I have seen both of your examples at many weddings as well as my own. I also had a widow in my crowd. It is appropriate for a divorced woman to catch a bouquet as well as an engaged woman. They are, after all, unmarried and therefore, single.

Divorced women are not married so they are welcome to participate if they like. Engaged women should not becuse the idea of the toss is that the woman who catches the bouquet is the next to marry. Sort of a luck type thing.

I've only ever heard it asked that SINGLE women come up. It used to just be single women, never married.
However, seems like all bets are off these days. Yes, if you are divorced you can get in that herd. I would think it would be really rude of an engaged woman to do this! However, technically she is not married.
I really dislike when parents let their little daughters go up though...

A divorced woman caught the bouquet at my wedding. As far as I'm concerned, single can include divorced or widowed as well as those who have never happened to marry, so long as they wish to participate.

Divorced yes, you are single, so go for it.
Engaged, I dont think so, it seems unfair to the whole meaning of the toss. But I know that engaged women do go out for the toss sometimes, I just personally dont like it.

Absolutely!!! They are unmarried and can remarry... But who cares, I've been to weddings where ALL women were asked to try and catch the bouquet.

Sure why not everybody is entitled to try and catch the bouquet! It doesnt matter if your divorced or engaged, just as long as your not married.
HAVE FUN!!!! AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE BOUQUET, I HOPE YOU CATCH IT!!!!

When I was divorced, I was strongly urged to go up there. I didn't want to, but did anyway and actually caught the bouquet. I did feel a little funny about it, thought. Interestingly enough, I was the next to be married.
