OK, a lot of times I'd like to use a name or part of another name as an editable start for a new save. Windows XP doesn't seem to like copying the "name" of a file anywhere.

Solutions I know about. Use cygwin or cmd and DIR or open the and then try to save the "template" from the "Save as" dialog but don't save the file.

There has to be a better way. Like a program that might implement "Send to . Frustrating.

Aside: The cygwin way allows you to print a directory list. Can't seem do it in Windows directly.

If the file is highlighted in explorer or on the desktop, use F2 (rename), then just copy the text, don't overwrite it.

Then hit return to leave the file with the same name.

At least that's what i do.

Why not "Save As", then rename the file, "Copy (file name)", or "(file name) 2".
