It all depends on what DNA tests you are talking about. Usually sequencing the entire genome of someone is not even necessary. Most genetic testing is done only on certain parts of the DNA that are called DNA markers. These are the portions of the DNA that vary from person to person because most of our DNA is 99% the same, its what makes us human! These DNA markers are isolated & run on certain gels & are then visualised & photographed to show the thing that you are specifically looking for. Some of these tests are quick & easy & can be done within a few hours, but some can take a bit longer, I don't know of any that actually take months. When you are talking about months with the DNA tests, it is actually the shear QUANTITY of DNA tests that need to be run & the lack of personnel that can get the job done, therefore it can take months before they are ABLE to do the tests, rather than the length of time the tests ACTUALLY take.

Because there are a lot of people needing them... They don't actually take that long, it's just a waiting list... And when you have a lot of people needing something that can take hours to get the list gets longer and longer. Good luck, what ever it's for.
