I can't stand Word or Excell. They are way too complicated and do too much for me. Usually, all I want to do is type a document. I don't want it to auto-anything! I'm also much faster typing a word than having it suggest words I've already typed earlier and pressing enter (or hitting backspace because it inputed a word instead of letting me go to the next line when I hit enter)!

I know I can turn the features off, but why do they start on? Shouldn't I choose the features I want to use before the program uses them?

I'm just curious if there are others out there who can't stand Microsoft products.

In responce to GTB:

I am perfectly willing to read instructions on how to use stuff. I read instruction manuals for my wristwatches, my computer, my electric mixer, everything! I have even done so with Excell and Word.

My porblem is MICROSOFT. I can't stand it. I use Open Office for everything. I have used its spreadsheet program to write programs of my own. I have trained people how to use a spreadsheet. I created my own budget program which calculates everything I need to know about my finances and even graphs it for me automatically.

I have created some rather complicated documents with Open Office and have duplicated other forms so you wouldn't know they weren't original.

Please don't jump to conclusions. I know I can turn the features off. I claim that the processes for turning these off are extremely confusing and organized in a way I do not understand.

It is Microsoft that drives me nuts, not spreadsheets and word processors. I'd love to have Wordperfect 6.1 again. . .

Other Microsoft programs I can't stand:

FrontPage (so much worse than SeaMonkey)
Internet Explorer (Again, I use Firefox)

The only thing that annoys me about Word is that little paperclip "helper" that looks like it's making lovey-eyes at you.

I realize it's supposed to be a reminder of "Hey I'm here... you stopped typing and look like you could use some help" but seriously, it looks like it's trying to come on to the person on the other side of the computer!

Gives me the creeps as much as the Burger King guy...

Your problem is not Microsoft products.

Spread sheets are all pretty much the same. In fact they are very capable of doing very sophisticated operations - but you need to learn how to use them. If you just look at the transendential functions, statistical functions, financial functions, and probability functions built in to spread sheets (and if you understand what these mean - and in your case I doubt you do) you quickly realize how capable the spread sheet is.

Word processing is similar. The products sure beat typing on a typewriter and they markedly outperform them. With their special functions and capabilities they do so much more. However you need to learn how to use them.

Let me give you a parallel. Driving a horse and buggy is pretty easy but it pulls light loads slowly. Piloting a jumbo jet takes a lot more training but it carries a lot more people and moves a lot faster.

It is not Microsoft - and I am sure you have not looked at any other product - rather you just complained.

In reality you are unwilling to learn how to use the product.

You can turn that automatic stuff off, and I have it turned off on my PC because of the very reason you're complaining about. I find that all these applications have pieces that drive me crazy, but fortunately those features are the ones you can usually configure.

I think all the Microsoft Office products are wonderful, I'm in college and they are really helpful. I don't think I would be able to get 1/2 my work done if it wasn't for Microsoft.
