Actually I was once a "born again christian". I was raised a baptist in a baptist home. Went to church every and I mean every sunday and wed. memorized verse after verse as was required of my school which made us attend bible classes everyday. Also we were required to attend chapel every monday and friday. Eventually over time I realized how many hypocrites there were in not only the baptist religion but in Christianity as a whole. It drove me away in realization that the followers of this 'god' were no better than a man who was not religious at all. I am not atheist I however do not believe in the christian "god" not saying that there isnt something more in the universe but I do not believe in organized religion. It is more of a cult than it is beneficial to me, I dont see what the point is in going to church and having a mortal man tell me Im going to hell and carrying around a BOOK that was written by mortal men who claim was the word of god . How exactly will this make my life better of give me better piece of mind?? It doesnt..... I was miserable living a life by standards of a group of people who judge others constantly then tell us its wrong to judge.

Simple: there is no Power nor healing of the Holy Spirit.
These things exist only in the minds of the believers. Belief in something is not grounds to accept its existence. With God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, there is no proof for their existence, therefore no logical or rational reason to believe. The ONLY reasons to believe are emotionally based reasons. A logical truth can be universally shared; an emotional truth cannot.
While some people claim that having religion, such as Christianity, in their lives makes them better and happier people, others will claim that they feel better without such religion in their lives. Why then must I accept something that makes you happy but would make me unhappy? Isn't it about being happy, or has to changed to being right, ultimately right?
If it is about being universally right or correct, the answers you seek should be found by rational and logical means rather than by emotional means. You must be willing to accept answers that you may not like or agree with in order to be intellectually honest. This is part of what separates science from faith. Science accepts fault where it is found and leaves room for correction. Faith exerts that things which do not make sense somehow must make sense because God cannot be wrong. This concept is self-defeating and a VERY DANGEROUS mindset to behold.
Take a step back and think about it.

I would have to say I "felt" a lot of stuff, it's amazing what your mind can come up with. I've also been to symphonies, movies, theaters other religious services and felt similar powerful feelings... this does not mean that Wiccans, Harry Potter, HMS Pinafore etc are true, inspired or a path to anything.
Educate your self further in your bible and ask yourself, why does god still not condemn slavery, or advocate equality among people. Strive for a better answer than "I'm sure god will be fair" when asking the question "what will happen to the billions of people that god ignored or who never heard his word".
Look at the world shaking miracles in the Old and New Testaments and wonder why no other culture recorded them?

Sorry, dear, but when you meet with Mr. Goldberg, you'll note that religion doesn't play a role in the making of a last will and testament. This is a civil document, not a religious one. I've had one for years. And if you were truly religious and looking forward to eternal life, you wouldn't care about the disposition of your material possessions. What will it matter, dear, when you are singing in harmony with the celestial choirs, waiting for your loved ones to join you? Wouldn't it be best just to hand everything over to charity? After all, your nearest and dearest should be focused on their own heavenly reward rather than your money, and I'm sure they don't want your tacky antimacassars and afghans anyway.

Most people don't get it. Europe is almost all atheist now, I hear. One percent church attendance in Germany I read. If someone is depressed those that don't get depression say you can be happy as you want to be. Actually you can be as happy as you know how to be. A few know how and it works. For the majority it's the opposite, the poor also meant the poor in spirit. They need love and understanding that the average Christian doesn't even have to give. The good news is that spiritual people in science, psycholoby, nuero-biology and every field are bringing spirituality together with the sciences, but the church is unable to keep up in these fast changing times..

Nothing. I didn't agree with the bible's definition of God or Jesus so I have turned to Buddhism and Yoga (yes, yoga is a spiritual path but some use it for exercise and that's cool too). When you study a text and it makes no sense to you, why should you embrace it anyway? It doesn't make any sense. I know many atheists who used to be devout Christians. You might be one someday. I think the more you cling to something the more doubt you present. It's OK to question everything. Good life lesson. You can believe what you like.

There is no power in the bible. Words will always be just words. It silly to debate this. You've been brainwashed into believing it. If there was some mystical power that compelled people then why doesn't it always work? And wouldn't that be against free will? It's all just fiction. That all.
If the words in the bible don't matter then why would god have bothered? Why not just show up at every ones house and hand out a rules pamphlet. Then everyone would believe.

When I believed in Jesus Christ, I felt like someone was constantly watching me, tallying up my mistakes to hold against me in some afterlife. When I read the Bible the first time, I understood that this was not the case- in fact when I read the Bible the first time, it led me to believe there was not a god at all, but a tyrannical ruling class in place who needed a tool to keep people behaving in the way they saw fit for their people. The do not question anything attitude of the bible coupled with its constant inconsistencies and very bizarre rules and regulations (which, quite frankly sound a lot like very prudish human laws) led me to see the bible for what it truly was- a work of fiction no different than a parent telling their child that Santa Clause will leave them a lump of coal and a reindeer turd in their stocking if they misbehave.

You don't get it. There are people here who were training for the priesthood when they lost their faith. People who were so committed to Christianity that they were translating the bible from the Greek. They were full of the power of the Word all right. Then they realized that there was nothing there - that it was all, actually, just nonsense. Give people credit for the depth of their belief will you? And learn to think for yourself. You never know, one day it could be you saying, "I used to believe all that nonsense and really cared about the Bible, but when you take the trouble to read it closely, you realize it's all just hokum".

If they were forced to go to church as a kid that doesn't make them a christian.I there family all claim to be a denomination but never accepted Him as Savior that doesn't make them a christian. The religious leaders were the ones that wanted Jesus dead.
Romans 1,3,6,10
Eph 2:8-9
Jude
Act 2:21
Job 19
If a person never accepted Jesus as their Savior and never had the Spirit of god to lead them that would be where they need to start. The bible is 100% true. What men believe may be flawed.
