My aunt has had cancer for a while and has just found out today that she is stopping treatment because it's not working and the cancer has spread. I want to write out a card to her letting her know how much she means to me...but I am worried about what I write. I don't want to offend her or make her feel worse. Anyone have any words of encouragement or gratitude that I can give her?

Tell her you are so sorry the treatments are not working. You want her to know how much she is loved , respected and admired. Tell her your life has been better with her in it and you are sad that future generations will not see the love in her that you have...

So sorry for you and your family..hope that helps.

I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt's situation. What a brave woman she sounds, and as someone who has had cancer I don't use the word brave lightly.

Just write what is in your heart. You won't offend her and you won't make things worse, don't worry.

Tell her how much you love her, how much better your life has been for having her in it. Don't worry about the exact wording, the words that come to you will be fine.

What a lovely caring niece you are. My very best wishes to you and to your aunt.

The words aren't important it's the thought that counts. Usually people with cancer and other possibly life threatening illnesses just want to see or hear a kind word or see a friendly face during the later stages of their illness.

Tell her that you are sorry that the cancer has spread.
Be open and honest about how much she means to you, and how much you love and care for her.
Tell her that even though the cancer has spread all is not hopeless.
Tell her something that refers to if she does die, that she will get to leave this sorry world, and will have a better home on the otherside.
The last paragraph I would definitly sugar coat it.

My Dad fought a brave fight with cancer & I know the thing that touched him the most were cards with words of love & encouragement. Don't be afraid to tell her how much she means to you & how proud you are of her. Words of love are never offensive. Maybe relate a funny story that you remember about her or something special she did for you & how it touched you. Tell her what makes her special & thank her for something she taught you. It could be as simple as how she took on cancer & fought it with bravery. Whatever you say will be appreciated!!!!

If your aunt has a great sense of humor try sending her a bunch of silly cards, like birthday, christmas, etc. even out of season, just let her know that you couldn't choose which card you liked best so you sent all of them. When I had cancer my sister sent me all kinds of great cards and I swamped my aunt with cards when she was undergoing treatement for her second time with cancer.

Write her with your heart don't think about what is "the right thing to say". Start with how much you love her and what having her in your life means to you and go from there. Good luck and God bless you and your aunt.
