Hey people.

I think there must be somthing wrong with me.. I bathe twice a day, I use soap and scrub EVERYWHERE. I use a good deodorant (Fragrance Free Mitchum) and ALWAYS wear clean clothes.

Despite all of this I obviously stink, often people stand further back than neccecary when indoors, Ive heared people saying that I stink (eg. on the bus today, the woman behind me said to her friend "That lad infront stinks") and on some occasions people have auctualy said to my face that I smell.

I cant explain this as I am extremely higeneic as displayed in the first paragraph. Ive tried everything and Im literaly at wits end as to what I can POSSIBLY do. Ive been the doctors and she said it was normal and I should just continue what im already doing. I have cleaned my washing machine and my dryer out to see if its the clothes. Once again, still no luck.

I cant be myself anymore.. Ive lost all self esteem because of this (Started 7-8 monts ago)

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Hi, i see you are a vegetarian but you don't say if you eat fish (some veggies do!). There is something called fish odour syndrome where you smell like fish. Check your diet, if you sweat a lot and eat garlic, onions, spicey or fishy foods, you may smell like the food you eat. Also, are you sure these people on the bus were talking about you? Sometimes when you are paranoid about something every thing around you seems so intense and related to you, when in fact it totally has nothing to do with you! Also your friend that told you 'you stink' (quite harsh) may have been talking about you breath (i say this tom my work mates) when i can smell garlic on them! Another thing to get checked is your teeth. If you havent been to the dentist in a while, they tend to harbour all sorts of nasty things and smells. Get them cleaned professionally. Buy an anti persperant deodorant (anti p actually reduces the amount you sweat). ... and most of all really try not to stress as this will make you sweat more (i have this problem with blushing!). I'm really sure you are not all that bad. Good luck x

This can be a greater problem for some than for others. Sometimes we excrete strong orders from things we eat. You might try to avoid strongly flavored foods like onion, garlic, or strong spices. Most generally, body order is the result of the interaction of sweat with bacteria. You can reduce the sweat by using an antiperspirant instead of a deodorant. You might also want to add the use of talcum powder to your daily routine. As for the bacteria, you mention that you always wear clean clothes, but do you use a fresh towel every time you bathe? Bacteria will grow quickly on a damp towel and can be difficult to wash out. Use a fresh towel every time. And add a very small amount of chlorine bleach to the wash water when you wash your towels. Hope these suggestions might help you.

Go to your dermatologist and get a prescription for a script called Drysol. It works great and can only be purchased through a drug store by having a script written out by a doctor. You probably suffer from a condition called hyperhydrosis and it is a serious condition meaning excessive sweating. I have it and use this and it really works trust me. I tried everything else prior. Let me know how you make out. It isn't expensive it costs about 11/ bottle and you use it only twice a week. It lasts about 3 months a bottle and worth it trust me. Any other side effects or questions email me at dels10@yahoo.com. More than happy to help.

I saw this special once on TV that there is a condition called Trimethylaminuria where people actually smell. Unfortunately, it's not curable. This one lady smelled like tuna all the time. She had to modify her diet and she started taking Botisol (a pill that helps generate the enzymes necessary to break down Trimethylamine).

Talk to your doctor about an amino acid test to see if this is the case. You don't need a prescription for Botisol, but I've never used it so I can't recommend it.

It could be a number of things, sometimes when you eat lots of spicy food/garlic it can come out of your sweat glands... drink lots of water to keep flushing your system out, but don't over do the water..

This is quite a common problem for people. You don't mention your age, as sometimes puberty can cause a sweat odour.

Get as much information about causes of this and cures, then if you think you have a case, print off the information and take it back to your doctor.........

some clothes can also cause this problem, a common one for blokes is the football type top as its a nylon type material. 100% cotton or linen shirts/tee shirts would be better.

First of all switch to a deoderant and anti perspirant stick that's scented. That way when you do start to sweat it's something good to smell. Two, switch soaps. Try using a body wash, they tend to make your skin smell better for longer. My husband is a stinky guy and he uses Axe body wash...smells much better now. Next try a men's body spray, spray it directly on your skin underneath your clothes. Some kinds like Axe body spray lasts a while on your skin. My husband sweats his butt off at work but still comes home smelling pretty decent. They make body sprays in handy "to go" sizes that you could keep in your pocket just in case you need to freshen up quickly.

try this.... theres probly a room in your house (most likely smaller then any other room in your house). go to that room. you'll know its the right room if theres a light switch right by the door. also you might find a bowl with a lid in this room, a cardboard tube with paper wrapped around it and a huge curtain hanging on a pole. what your gonna wanna do is, open that curtain, and look for 2 knobs that your can turn. your then going to proceed to turn them on, but dont be frightened by the clear liquid that is comming out of the long spicket type thing (thats what we in the bissiness call WATER) neway there should be a little thing you can pull on the spicket. go ahead and pull upwards. this should make the water come out of the spicket that is above your head. next your gonna take off all your clothes and jump right on in. stand under the indoor rain machine and get all wet. the next thing you need to do is locate something thats oval in shape, white or green in color, and smells good. we call this soap. rub it all over your body and rinse it off. repeat if nesscesary. this entire process is called showering. civilized people often do this to rid there body of dirt and bad smells. hope this helps

Hey,
Did you happen to have any emotional trauma at about the time this started? There was a boy at school with me who had this exact problem. His mother died when he was about 15 and he developed a smell. Anyway, that's what he told us and he wasn't the type of person to lie. Might be worth going to your GP and asking him, it sounds like it could be a medical thing as you are clearly a very clean person.

Hope it turns out ok for you, good luck :D

A good idea would be to change detergent you use when washing your clothes, use a couple dryer sheets like bounce when drying your clothes to help them smell better. get a nice cologne, and chem gum or use listerine strips. All of these will improve your general smell. If you sweat often you will need to try another deoderant. Maybe try a different soap or shampoo.
Good luck.
