They try and take friends with the kuffar and live their comfortable lives and sometimes even side with the kuffar rather than their Muslim brothers and sisters in Islam.
Read the Ayats and Surahs :
O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust. (Quran 5:51)
God forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for God loveth those who are just. (Quran 60:8)
O ye who believe! take not for friends and protectors those who take your religion for a mockery or sport,- whether among those who received the Scripture before you, or among those who reject Faith; but fear ye God, if ye have faith (indeed). (Quran 5:57)

O ye who believe! Choose not My enemy and your enemy for friends. Do ye give them friendship when they disbelieve in that truth which hath come unto you, driving out the messenger and you because ye believe in Allah, your Lord? If ye have come forth to strive in My way and seeking My good pleasure, (show them not friendship). Do ye show friendship unto them in secret, when I am best Aware of what ye hide and what ye proclaim? And whosoever doeth it among you, he verily hath strayed from the right way.
"And the leaders among them went about (saying): "Go on, and remain constant to your gods! Verily, this is a thing designed (against you)! We have not heard (the like) of this in the religion of these later days (i.e. Christianity). This is nothing but an invention!" [Surah Saad : Verse 6-7]

Not pin pointed this is some of the many Surahs which speak about it. It takes its point and you as a kaffir wouldn't understand anyhow.

Just a thought....
Is it more about being an enemy and less about the "jewish/christian" label?
Are you taking in account the ENTIRE Koran...or just pulling stuff that fits your point?
What is the historical or cultural significance here? Is it possible that during the time it was written that the only "jewish/christian" influence was a negative one?
If this is the case, then the historical and cultural influence needs to be taken into account.

If you shouldn't befriend and "be among" non-Muslims, then wouldn't it only be logical to not move to a non-Muslim country?
Why do you suppose so many of the wealthy and educated Muslims would want to leave Muslim countries? When given a choice apparently they prefer the non-Muslims over the Muslims.
