While some long weekends may come as a relief to your wedding guests, there are some holidays that could cause a great deal of your wedding guests to decline. Labor Day weekend marks the end of the summer. For many families, it is the last weekend to enjoy each other before children go back to school. Also, this is a weekend that is frequently marks the end of a vacation week, and many people will either be on vacation, or just getting back. Also, many wedding guests may be scared off by the escalated prices of hotels, airfare, rental cars, etc. For those guests with children, this weekend is impossible, as these guests are already dealing with the impending school year.

In general, I've always heard that weddings on holiday weekends are a bad idea for many reasons. Family obligations, increased travel costs, difficulty securing vendors, difficulty finding venues that are open and not already booked, etc. However, labor day might not be as bad as say Christmas or Valentine's Day. Most people have labor day off anyway. There will still be the issue of people having family stuff they have to do and travel being more expensive though, so you may just want to go with another weekend. If there are specific reasons you want that date, then by all means choose it, but consider the problems and alternatives if possible. Good luck and congratulations!

I'm having my wedding on Labor Day weekend next year. We're getting married on a Friday (because its easier to secure vendors and stuff is cheaper). People can still leave town by Saturday and still enjoy their holiday weekend if they want. My family is really close and since we'll all be in the same place for my wedding, everyone thought Labor Day weekend was a great idea.

Well, any long weekend would be a great time to have a wedding given that the date was not set on such short notice. At least two months notice, I'd say... but if you want it sooner than let the guests know as soon as possible even if its before the invitations are sent. The most important thing about setting the dates is if has been mutually agreed upon you & your fiance as well as the parents both sides or whoever is the most important guests of honor you really NEED not just want to be there at your wedding so they will not nag or mumble. Hope that helps & congratulations to the both of you.

I love it when weddings are on Memorial Day or Labor Day weekend. Especially if it's in a place where you can go sightseeing and things like that. I like the option of having an extra day to travel or/ go home and have another day before going back to work. I've been to weddings on Labor Day for the past two years and they were a blast. And there were a ton of guests, too. Go for it and have fun. Last year was in Madison, WI. I thought there wouldn't be anything to do, but we went to breweries, toured cheese factories, went to a ball game, toured the capitol; it was a ton of fun!

I think it's a vrey nice weekend to have a wedding. If you don't leave for your honeymoon right away, you get an extra day to spend with your out-of-town guests. OR you can have your wedding on Sunday and you might get a break on some of your costs. The only catch with a labor day wedding is that you want to send out Save the Dates WELL in advance so that your guests don't plan a trip and then they can't attend your wedding. If you live in a tourist area, you may also have issues with getting enough hotel rooms.
I say go for it! Good luck!

Like you siad, most people like to go on vacation or travel over Labor Day weekend. You can have the wedding at that time if you don't mind some people not coming. Obviously your close family will be there, but others might have plans or a family tradition over the holiday. If you and your FH don't mind, I'd say go for it.

Horrible time. I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't go to a wedding on Labor Day weekend. A lot of people go out of town. My fiance's friend had his bachelor party on Memorial Day weekend and he didn't even have a good turn out at that! I would pick another weekend.

I'm getting married Labor Day weekend. We haven't had anyone say no because of a vacation or other plans. I did send save the date magnets out in January though.
