i agree with Lisa, i would buy something for people in need and give it to them directly. but if i had to choose, it would be children foundation

If you can survive without that $1000 yes. Or save a part of it for existence only(not for luxury) and give the rest to Feeding the kids, or do something charitable. Make sure you or your family don't end up in the charitable reciever seat, that is all.

Charitable means make sure it is given to the cause you feel it should be given to.

Feed the Children says that 80% goes to charitable work. This is admirable. My church does better. If it was my last $1000, they would feed me.
