I'd actually think the opposite is true...
We live in a society (in America anyway) where few people worry or care about the future precisely because they believe the rapture will be coming.
Americans are uniquely unconcerned with the environment and the ramifications of what we're doing now. And why would they care if elephants will be extinct in 50 years if 44% of them genuinely believe the rapture will happen before then? What's the point of taking care of the planet if it will be destroyed after Jesus returns? This is a significant part of the problem...
Also there is a sizable portion of Americans who, if Israel were replaced with a mushroom cloud, would actually rejoice and celebrate what they see as a sure sign of the "end times." These are people who firstly support war in the middle east if it brings about the "prophecies" and secondly don't care about human life (except for their own obviously).
People also tend not to worry about things when they believe god is looking out for them... It's easier to cross the bridge everyday when you think god has a plan for your life (though complacency, routine and expectations of engineering help as well).

The thing I find interesting about your question is that it seems more pro-active than I usually find from religious people. I am often struck by how willing some people are to ignore the need for action because they think everything is a sign of God's will. As a result, things like climate change are dismissed as unimportant. It's nice to see someone willing to accept that there are some things humans can (and should) do something about.

People today go about there business (living the "me first") way of life.Too many people believe that old bumper sticker "those with the most toys when they die wins" instead of the bible).People today (even those who claim to be christians) want to follow the ways of the world and PC not the truth of the bible.

Since the concept of "the Lord" is silly fiction, I have no reason to be concerned.

The Mississippi river is big but it's certainly no ocean. Please don't exploit their tragedy for your lame proselytising, that's just shameful.
