the best thing to do would be to take voice lessons. By yourself, you don;t know how to fix the problems of you range. A vocal teacher would be able to help you stretch your range by doing certain exercises. ALWAYS warm up you voice before you sing, and start with scales. Try relaxing your throat as much as possible when reaching high notes- it's ok if your voice cracks, actually, that's good. It means that your muscles are trying to relax. Once you master how to relax your throat (takes a long time with professional training), you won't crack, and you'll reach high notes. but you seriously need to take voice lessons if you're serious about singing. and even if you're not, it's worth it.

Seeing that I don't know your vocal range, I will try to guess what might be going on. You may be an alto trying to sing notes that are easier for a soprano to hit. We have two voices, the chest voice (that we talk and can "belt" notes in) and the head voice (that we use for screaming and hitting high notes). If you are trying to belt out a note in your chest voice that is too high for you, your voice will crack. Many sopranos even sing in their head voices. Your head voice sounds softer and more breathy. There are wonderful vocal warm-up CDs out there that help you properly develop both voices and bridge the gap between the two, creating what is known as a "combined voice" or "middle voice". Google vocal warm-up CDs and you will find them. Also, there are good vocal coaches out there that can help you. Good luck.
