If you ask the majority of JW's who the founder was, they will answer Charles Taze Russell..For many, many years they were very glad and proud to say this..now it seems to have changed. Do you not hold to some of the same teachings that Charles Taze Russell first began to teach?

I deleted my previous question regarding him, until I research this further. But, it still does not dismiss the fact that your Bible translation is very simular with the Roman Catholic Priest who got his information from a Spirit that told the boy(spirit talking throught the boy) that the Bible was wrong and that John 1:1 should read "a God"..and others as well.
You guys seem to just dismiss this as nothing ..but that is huge..Why would a demon..want people to think that it was translated as "a God"..Think about it..don't just dismiss this vital information.

shalei....In the JW's Bible the NWT John 1:1, 2 says..
In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. 2 This one was in [the] beginning with God.

See how they have it translated? My Bible the NIV and KJV is like you said..

I mentioned a demon due to the fact that the Roman Catholic Priest that JW quoted for many years in support of their Bible translation ..He, Johannes Greber also translated a version of the Bible in which he got his information from a boy whom a spirit talked through..The spirit told the boy that he was a good spirit and that John 1:1 should read "a God"..like the NWT has it.
You can pull his name up and there are several web site that give his personal history about this as well as the relationship with JW's.

Moises3702..send it to me..if you can prove it..I have done lots of research about this and so far it all points to being translated as KJV and other Versions do. Why would God allow this to be translated as it is in 99% of peoples Bibles for 100's and 100's of years ? God can do anything ..he certainly wouldn't have allowed this to be misleading his people .Then just over a 100 years ago..everyone suddenly realizes that it was translated wrong? I don't think so.

I don't know about that scripture you quoted in support of demons helping clear the way so to speak..I will research that and read more on it. I will read that entire book of Acts, I believe you said.

steervase..It can be confusing if you let it. Is quite simple..God came down to earth in the flesh..to relate to us...He is God in human form..but, God the Almight, Jehovah is still in the heavens..They are the same, but different..The Bible says that there would be things that we cannot completely understand..

First, you did not mention any Bible. What Bible are you reading John1:1? I got 2 Bibles. NIV & KJB
KJB
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) The same was in the beginning with God.
NIV
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (2) He was with God in the beginning.
I added scripture 2 because I feel you can't read 1 and leave out 2. The both is connected to fully understand. Is that correct?
You mention "Why would a demon" I don't follow your point. When you talk about God Almighty and the Holy Bible; I'd be careful as to say something about "a demon" getting his claws in the Holy scriptures. The Bible is God's written words and nothing to do with the demons.
Very crucial times, be careful.

CONTINUATION: Hmmm & Steervase,
I am not a JW but in my walk of life now I feel the NEED to have a bond with Jehovah God. I can see you all have that great passion inside of you too. Wonderful, I love this learning experiences! I will be a little smarter today than yesterday. I have a opinion on John 1:1. If you feel I don't have it right, than I want ALL participants in this question to clarify the TRUTH of this question. Here goes:
I know Jehovah God is the ONE AND ONLY ALMIGHTY GOD, THE ALPHA AND OMEGA. All things was created and came to be from HIM. ALL the Angels in heaven came to be from Jehovah and so was the WORD (Jesus). When the Word was in the BEGINNING (did not come to earth yet), the Word was "a God". Could it be that God Almighty considered Jesus "a God" with Him; (3) Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. (4) In Him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men. "A God" first with Almighty God (God made His angel (Jesus) first above everything else. Then everything else followed after the Word. Verse 4 "In Him was life, and that life was the light of men." It came the time when God saw the need to have His WORD come down to earth because John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." When God's WORD came down to earth, than the WORD became the Son of Man and NOW Jesus sits on the right side of God and then God will have Jesus rule over the earth in time when God will's it to be.
I think Jesus was "a God" with the God Almighty before He became the "Son of man".
Now someone please teach me!

UPDATE: JW's answers here; does your Bible have a introduction for each Bible books? The NIV have a intro for each Book in the Bible. The last intro paragraph for Book of John writes: The purpose of this gospel is to report the signs, usually called miracles in other gospels. The signs that John reports give "proof that Christ is God" and has supernatural powers. Although John gives much attention to "proving that Jesus is the Son of God" he also shows often that Jesus was very much a human by showing that he was tired, sad, hungry and loving.
"Proof that Christ is God" "Proving that Jesus is the Son of God"
O.K. how confusing can that introduction be. It can't be both. I don't know, I'm confused.
Is the Bible a mystery because God intended it to be that way, or does man complicate it.

Have you ever seen John 1:1 in greek? would you like to see how was written two times the word "God" AND "god"?

also in the book of Acts 28:6 in greek says "God" and in the bible translated as "a god" they applied the rule why they don´t applied in John 1:1?

Don´t believe me? I can show you and is not our bible are the Vatican manuscript.

Our founder the one who wrote the bible , it is true that C. T Russell beagan to investiguate from the bible but the bible was inspired by God, if we attach to the bible as our source then we are founded by God almighty.

By the way the only verse in the bible is John 1:1? it is true Jesus is god, we know that but he is not Jehovah, all the sons of God almighty are gods. (Genesis 6:1, Job 1:6, 2:1 and 38:4-7) show how the angels are called sons of God and Psalms 82:1-6 show how God almighty is among divine beings and the sons of God are called gods. so it is not rare that the bible call Jesus god, cause he is the first of the sons of God.

Just to clear this up for shalei:

The questioner is referring to the fact that back in the 1950's, the publishers of the New World Translation Bible (the Watchtower Society) published an article in which they stated that a translation of the Bible made by a former Catholic priest, Johannes Greber, was made with the assistance of wicked spirit forces - in other words "demons".

Some years later, this same publishing company quoted Mr. Greber's translation of John 1:1 which was in agreement with their own New World Translation - but never mentioned that Mr Greber was a spiritualist, and that their own magazine had previously condemned his translation as being made with the assistance of (wicked) spirits.

I hope this clears it up for you.

Jesus.

EDIT: It seems the questioner has entirely changed the direction of his "question" by introducing an entirely different subject than the bold initial "question". Perhaps this is a new strategy by anti-Witnesses, but it seems both cumbersome and ill-conceived.

It seems best to begin this answer by acknowledging that many or most scholars of ancient languages over the centuries have not necessarily led wholesome lives; they have been guilty of a wide array of god-dishonoring practices. Would one's sinful life preclude one from performing honest research, and coming to honest conclusions? There seems little reason to assume so.

While Greber and his wife were self-described "spiritualists" who dabbled in the occult, there was no reason to believe their sins would have prevented Greber from honestly translating one language into another.

Few if any scholars would supposed that ancient Hebrew and Greek language scholarship was anything but a secular exercise which was performed independently of any otherworldly assistance. Even sinners could be expected to come to intellectually honest conclusions based upon thoughtful research.

It was not until the renewed publication of Greber's bible in 1980 that his translation itself authoritatively attributed its own scholarship to spirits. Thus, Jehovah's Witnesses could no longer allow even a seeming tolerance for Greber's bible.

Of course, it is not as though Jehovah's Witnesses had any particular interest in Greber's work. In nearly sixty years, Jehovah's Witness publications quoted Greber five times. His writings were never central to any belief or teaching of Jehovah's Witnesses, and in fact Jehovah's Witnesses had recognized their bible truths decades before Greber produced his translation of the bible (in 1937).

Incidentally, the bible itself teaches that a demon may choose to advocate a bible truth. In other words, Greber's apparent demon influence does not mean that everything Greber wrote was incorrect. Note this account with the apostle Paul and a demon-possessed woman...

(Acts 16:16-17) A certain servant girl with a spirit, a demon of divination, met us. She used to furnish her masters with much gain by practicing the art of prediction. This girl kept following Paul and us and crying out with the words: “These men are slaves of the Most High God, who are publishing to you the way of salvation.”
