besides John 3:16...

Genesis 32:10 I am not worthy of all the faithfulness and unfailing love you have shown to me, your servant. When I left home, I owned nothing except a walking stick, and now my household fills two camps!

I could describe God's love as follows:

God Sustains both the Believers and Non Believers, because He is the Most Merciful and Benevolent.

I like the following Verse of our Holy Book Quran, regarding His love towards us.

Holy Quran verse # 39:53
Say you: O My servants who have committed excesses against their own souls! Despair not of Mercy of Allah. Surely Allah forgives all sins altogether. Verily He is the Most Forgiving, the Ever Merciful.

Agape, is the Greek word for GOds love. It is unique to him alone. I personally know I cannot find this kind of love anywhere else in the world, it is all over, transcendent. But the thing that makes it so unique is how I can feel in in times of anger and strife. Because God showed his love for me by dieing on the cross for my sins I understand that his love is not based upon my actions but his. He does not love me just in my good deeds as allot of religions call for but he loves me most even while I am down and out, while I sin, and while I am distant. He loves me always no matter what I do. This is why I strive so hard no to sin, not because he longs for me not to but because I know he loves me even though I am. THat is a GOd worth following. That is the God only found through Jesus Christ.

FOr God so loved the world he gave his only Begotten (unique) son.

GOd bless

He can manifest it many ways. I like His touch sometimes. Like a service at Evangelical church, Marsham street, London. The presence of God, the Holy Spirit, descended on the congregation in one of those physically felt ways that are wonderful. It was tender but hard not to laugh. The Holy Spirit was actually tickling my physical heart inside - there are some nerve endings there - .. it makes one laugh .. I suppose like parents tickle their children on their sides.

Of course help in the practical matters of life may be rather more important, but relationships include many things.

Ephesians 3:18-21 May you, with all God's people, be strong to grasp what are the dimensions of Christs's love, and to know it, though it surpasses [mere mental] knowledge. So may you be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to Him, who is able to .. do immeasurably more than all we can ask or even conceive, be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus ...

I can't explain it. That's the whole point. I don't have a favorite verse about it, but a really good one is this:

Romans 5:8 (New International Version)
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

If I had to choose a favorite, though, it'd probably be this:

Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

It does not discriminate.
.
I Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

In this world today, there is so much discrimination, but God says whosoever will ,,,may come to him..we are all one in the body of Christ..

I would describe the bible god's love as rather petty, childish and jealous. Basically, it is a love me or suffer the most horrible agony imaginable. But if you do love me I may still jerk you around and hurt you and don't you dare ask why (see the Book of Job for an example).

I am not impressed

"Absolute" is the best way. He has always been "hurt" when people ignore or disbelieve it.

Rom 8:37-39

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(from New International Version)

Only we can remove ourselves from the BENEFIT of God's love.

God's love is like an evolved parent's love(evolved with wisdom and love). No matter the kid loves the parent back or not their love for their children is there. Whether they are closer to kids,or far away in school, work, or in a far away country you can feel their love.

Love is the fundamental principle of God's purpose for man, and He has commanded us to love each other even as He loves us. All these discords and disputes which we hear on all sides only tend to increase materiality.
(Abdu'l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 120)
All God's prophets have brought the message of love. None has ever thought that war and hate are good. Every one agrees in saying that love and kindness are best.
(Abdu'l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 35)
When you love a member of your family or a compatriot, let it be with a ray of the Infinite Love! Let it be in God, and for God! Wherever you find the attributes of God love that person, whether he be of your family or of another. Shed the light of a boundless love on every human being whom you meet, whether of your country, your race, your political party, or of any other nation, colour or shade of political opinion. Heaven will support you while you work in this in-gathering of the scattered peoples of the world beneath the shadow of the almighty tent of unity.
(Abdu'l-Baha, Paris Talks, p. 37)

They whose hearts are warmed by the energizing influence of God's creative  198  love cherish His creatures for His sake, and recognize in every human face a sign of His reflected glory.
(Shoghi Effendi, The World Order of Baha'u'llah, p. 197)

Therefore it is God's ultimate purpose that we suffer harm to befall no man, but show him all good and love; and, as we have said it is specially directed toward those who are our enemies.
(Martin Luther, Large Catechism)

ALLAH

1. Allah is most Merciful
The Qur’an says several times that Allah is the most Merciful. In fact all the 114 Surahs i.e. chapters of the Glorious Qur’an except for Surah Taubah chapter 9, begin with the beautiful formula, Bismillah-hir-Rahman-nir-Rahim, which means, "In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful".
