Always ride with traffic.

Consider taking a BikeEd course offered by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) League Cycling Instructors (LCI). You will learn about destination and speed positioning, and a variety of traffic principles that exceed motor vehicle operators understanding.

Even where traffic is on the other side (UK, Australia), the uniform vehicle code considers bicycles equivalent to other vehicles (even horse drawn carts should be driven with traffic).

Most of the reasons have to deal with driver expectations - drivers will not expect high speed wrong way vehicles and consequently will not be looking for them. Wrong way and sidewalk riding is the largest contributor to cyclist collisions (because if you are riding on the wrong side, there is no accident).

Pedestrians, where there are no facilities (like sidewalks) should face traffic so they can yield to vehicles, and so vehicles can have a better chance of seeing them.

In Michigan, by law if on the road you must obey all traffic laws a bike is considered a legal road vehicle... ALWAYS ride with traffic. I'm sure all states would be the same.

If you mean riding off the side of the road, (cause riding ON the road against traffic would be suicide) then you still go with the flow.

According to the Department of Motor Vehicles, you are to ride with traffic (in the direction traffic is going). You are permitted to ride in the bike lanes, or on the road when safe. When traveling on the road, you should know the hand signals to tell people you are about to stop, or make a left/right turn. The same laws apply to bicyclists that do to those driving motor vehicles or motor bikes.

Always ride with the flow of traffic - as everyone has pointed out. However, you should never "hug" the curb. I have always found that if I hug the curb, cars tend to stay in the lane. IF you ride atleast 2 feet - 60 cm into the lane, cars then acturally pass you in the other lane and give you more breathing space. If you do not have a rear view mirror for your bike, you should searious think of purchasing one. Keep cycling.

You are supposed to ride with the traffic. You are considered to be a vehicle (even though you don't have to register your bike or pay taxes like every other vehicle) and you have to follow the rules of the road, just like the motor vehicles do.

Please don't take up half the road. Pay attention to the cars. I have just about killed a couple bicyclists because they have been doing something stupid like riding up the middle of the road, or stopping in the middle. Stick to roads that have a good shoulder where you can ride safely and not endanger yourself or the other people on the road. As fun as narrow, windy, country roads are, they are a dangerous place for bicyclists.

I would ride with traffic, riding with the flow of the vehicles seems to be the most logical answer.

If there is yet another automobile coming from the different direction and yet another is springing up from in the back of I take the lane so as that they ought to think of two times approximately what you will do. no count if it particularly is risk-free for them to bypass I pass over yet i will no longer be able to experience on the sting. it particularly is the regulation, maximum states require you to grant a bike proprietor a minimum of three ft of clearance while passing. you do no longer own the line anymore then the sidewalk that elderly guy or woman walks on. human beings using on sidewalks are greater risky then being on the line. are you able to think of flying down a ingredient walk with elderly human beings strolling approximately ? there are distinctive those that experience to artwork or the keep besides as workout. it particularly is particularly helpful to objective it sometime.
