The best way of doing this is formatting your entire system. This effectively gets rids of everything on the computer, even if you have a virus, this will make it go away. To do this, turn on your computer and choose to boot from the cd, while making sure your nrew cd is in the drive. Some computers do not automatically boot from the cd, look for a "xxx key to select boot order" message as soon as you turn on the computer (may be F8 or F12 key). After this the cd will ask if you want to boot from CD, follow the steps, and select formatting in the options. Caution! Formatting erases everything on the computer, make sure you first get your pictures, songs, documents etc out and burn them to a cd or copy them to a flash drive before doing this. Also remember you will need to reinstall all the programs that were on your system.

Probably the best thing to do is insert the new CD in the drive and follow the prompts. Somewhere down the track, windows will ask you if you wish to make a new installation. Answer yes and it will reformat your hard drive and absolutely everything on it will be lost forever, unless you backed it up of course. I've done hundreds of XP installations, but never have I replaced old with new while data is on the computer. To begin with, most of your software won't work because the registry will have been replaced. You won't be able to do a restore because the new XP has different validations.

I dont understand?
YOu want to remove Xp and replace it with Xp?
Just go to microsoft windows update to get the updates, (i.e: XP SP2) why did you buy a new xp o/s?
Doing so, is a waste of money because you already have it.

Boot your system from the XP CD,
Get to the part where it shows the partitions on the hard drive.
Delete the partition that XP is installed on and then quit the installation. POOF all gone.
