You are not speaking russian or chinese because of the deterrent effect having those missiles has. Nobody thinks having nuclear weapons is cool, its a necessity. As far as stopping other countries from developing them, there are international treaties which most of these nations have signed which give them incentives for not developing nukes. If they violate those treaties then they are subject to economic sanctions. In some cases such as Iran and North Korea, the governments are staunchly anti-American and to a large degree "Nuts". They are dangerous because they have little to lose in using the threat of nuclear attack as leverage for political gain. Essentially the threat is that of nuclear terrorism. Problem with making a threat is that eventually you will ask for too much and someone will call your bluff. Look at what Kim Jeung Mentally-ill has been doing with the N. Korean nuclear program. He made a deal with clinton not to pursue nuclear weapons in exchange for aid and other concessions. He went right on working on them. When we found out, he demanded more concessions to stop. Now that he managed to get a low yield detonation, south korea is sending him heating oil to get him to stop his program. Want to bet that he still continues and will ask for even more next time. He has already made some rediculous demands because he is now a "Nuclear Power". It may seem stupid to you that America makes an effort to stop these maniacs from getting such lethal weapons but the fact is we are one of the few nations that has the ability to do so. If we dont who will, the French? All they are good at is surrendering and selling nuclear technology to every nut who wants it.

You are talking about the nuclear program in Iran.
Iran funds over 80% of the terrorism in the world.
The terrorists have stated that their goal is to obtain nuclear weapons, smuggle those weapons into the United States and other countries and detonate those weapons.
If Iran had nuclear weapons they would give them to the terrorists.
For all practical purposes Iran has declared war on the United States. It is not prudent to permit a country that has declared war on you to buy nuclear weapons or the technology or even develop it it they had the capability.
For your information Iran is buying nuclear weapons technology from Pakistan and Russia because the Iranians have not been able to figure out how to develop nuclear weapons on their own.

Well, we do follow the Geneva Convention closer than most countries. I do think our military at least tries to be moral in their attacks and tactics. Also, without us, what would the UN be? When you are on top of the world, everyone wants you down. We have had nuclear weapons for a long time, so far, the only country we have used them on was the last country that attacked us for no reason. Sounds like a good reason to me.

The answer you seek lies in the idea of might makes right. We cannot force other countries to do our bidding in reality, What we are left with is fear as a motivator. Since the United States has the most powerful arsenal on the planet this gives us the mistaken impression that our will is supreme. I love my country and there is no place on earth I would rather live, but sometimes I can't help but notice that our actions are not always altruist in nature. On the whole we do have good intentions as a people, but we tend to be full of our selves and this has lead us to some bad decisions through the course of our short history as a nation.

It not a matter of stopping them from having it, its just a game we all play in order to get what we want. Do you really think a country would take the one thing that brings them what they want and remove it from the equation? Here you have a country that needs X, so they use Y in order to get X. More less a pushing match. Thou, the end result is not what anybody wants, just tiping the scales a bit wont hurt,,, much.

....because If you had to pick a country to be the most powerful in the world and to have nuclear superiority...who do you wan it to be? Iran, Nkorea, Or the US? Personally I want the nukes to be in the hands of the country that I know would NEVER use them unless nukes were used against it first. You seem to prefer that Countries who have publicly declared that the purpose of their existance is to wipe out Isreal and the United states, or to "unify the korean peninsula" have them.. You want THEM to have them?
There are reasons the US CAN AND WILL stop other countries from obtaining and maintaining significant nuclear weapons systems...the reason is because MOST of the country is made up of people smarter than you.

We at present are not building any new war heads ( nuclear type ) also we have stopped testing nuclear devices. If we do use these type devices we will build replacements only. Our arsenal would destroy the World as we know it many times over, so to build new ones is to redundant. If we build a new delivery device for nuclear war heads we dismantle older ones and replace them with a device suited for the new delivery system.

look, our nuclear program is essentially for peaceful uses now. as we have dissassembled THOUSANDS of warheads over the past decade.. no, we wont completely destroy our arsenal.. but, it's mainly as a deterrent, NOT to be used unless neccessary. States such as North Korea, Iran, or Syria have demonstrated that they WOULD use such technology to bully peaceful nations. neither have they demonstrated that they will protect such weapons from the likes of al-qaida nor do they have the appropriate resources to do so.... and we do not think we have the RIGHT to police the world, so much as we think we have the RESPONSIBILITY to do so as the world's ONLY superpower.

Because Silver Tongue, America does not want to see you and your family blown off the face of the Earth. If we stopped our own nuclear program, do you think other countries would simply stop their nuclear pursuits? That is very naive my friend. You sound like the members of the British Parliament during the late 1930's who wanted to pare down Britan's military just as Hitler was building up Germany's Luftwaffe and other military resources.

I suppose you think it's OK for someone similar to Hitler to have nuclear weapons. The US needs to police the world out of moral responsibility. Peace can only be maintained through superior firepower.
