since the Catholic Church is the one that compiled it. everyone, who knows history, knows of this fact. if the Church didn't preserve it, there will be no Bible for you to read.

Dude, good question, but you're only going to get real answers from people who aren't Bible-fundies.

Bible-fundies aren't capable of answering a question like that intelligently. They're gonna write in and quote a bunch of scriptures, and damn you to hell, and say something snide, and that's all.

They're incapable of rational thought, so why bother?

I'm not technically fundy, and don't hate catholics, although I do think the supremacist position some catholics adopt is unreal; pride is bad.

To all christians (Colossians 3:9-11) "The fullness of the deity dwells in Christ and you [i.e all christians] have fullness in Christ." Salvation is from inclusion in Christ, Apollos, Peter, Paul, [the Popes also we might logically add] are nothing in comparison, as Paul argues in 1 Corinthians.

Catholicism as an idea that the Roman church is to be in charge of all churches didn't take off until well after the New Testament canon was written. I think Paul, Peter and the apostles would raise their eyebrows at the idea of one church trying to act as commander of all churches.

The pope is not what our faith is about, even if some popes have been good leaders. Its about Jesus and the salvation He has brought.

You are correct sir.

Hey, ryoma136: Are you the one that keeps railing against Purgatory? You know, the word "Trinity" isn't in the Bible, but the Church came to understand the Trinity over the centuries and now most Christians embrace it. The same with Purgatory. Read this for your scriptures on Purgatory: http://www.catholic.com/library/Purgatory.asp

"everyone who knows history knows of this fact"?!?!

I'm guessing you haven't actually checked out the RCC's claim that it compiled the Bible. The Council of Nicea was NOT a Catholic tribunal. Furthermore, they simply UPHELD the inspiration of the Scriptures; they DID NOT pick and choose. The Council was called to order to refute a grave error being introduced into the Church: Arianism, which closely resembles today's Jehovah's Witnesses. I promise you, if you do a bit of research, you'll see that you have greatly misunderstood this subject.

Catholicism is fine.

I am a Christian and I believe that if the church believes and preaches about God--then I feel if they believe in the Bible--they are all right with me!!

So many do not understand the churches teaching is from Christ himself and the Holy Spirit protects the truth. No wonder it is rejected as Christ was. So it was then and so it is today

You are correct, but Esther also has the right of it. A pity that those who really need to see and absorb the truth she states will not see her answer. Kudos to you both.

I ask that we stop this ongoing war of accusation between protestant and Catholic. It surely is satan desiring to divide and conquer. Our eyes and hearts should be on Jesus Christ, not on throwing rocks at one another.

And if they haven't already, throw out the idea of Purgatory; that was invented by a Council of men a long time after Christ died
