I have a beautiful 1992 lincoln continental with 160k miles(body and leather interior is mint condition) everything works. Except the engine knocks and the electrical system is draining the battery. I cant sell it! have it for sale at $800. I put "best offer" and my phone number on windshield. Its been sitting at a Firestone for 3 months now. I've received about 100 phone calls asking about my car. All I get are tire kickers and flakes. When I am honest and tell them the engine knocks people run! I bought the car when the engine knocked and it didnt scare me. I had no problems with it. I drove it for a year with no problems. I finally bought another car so I dont need it anymore.

So how do I sell my car fast? Should I write "engine knocks" on the window? However, I may not get any calls. Or should I lower price? How would you guys advertise my car and for what price? I need to get this thing sold. Im moving out of state next month. Your honest opinion would be grateful.

Advertise it on http://www.craigslist.org

Postings are free, and you can include pictures.

Inform buyer that engine knocks. Engine knock can be due to a variety of things. The first thing I would try is to fill the gas tank up with Premium gasoline and see if you still get knock. Most Luxury cars require premium gasoline and you can possibility get rid of the engine knock if preignition is the cause of your knocking problem, then you don't even need to tell the user it knocks.

My kids just sold a car exactly like this, with the same problems. They listed it on craigslist.org. Tell about the problems. Put some Lucas in it so it doesn't sound it's worst. They actually had their car up for $1,000 and got a $4,000 diamond ring with apraisal in exchange. They really didn't want the ring but can make more than that off it. I don't think you should go down on the price. They are nice cars and some one will come along and need it. Craigs is great...

What do people expect for $800 ? You should disclose it though , I wouldnt try to hide it , I mean he'll hear it when he starts it up . You get what the market bares and apparently 800 is too much , try reducing the price a little , some people dont like to negotiate , so put your bottom line price on there ,There for the guy that "flaked" on you , really wanted it ,but didnt want to tell you he'd give you 600 for it , will buy it

You sell it for less than you could if it didn't have an engine knock and electrical problems.

You sell it "as is" and then disclose all the problems you know about.
If someone buys it, they can't come back and say you decieved them
