There are great cages on ebay for very good prices. You don't say what kind of bird you're trying to feed for cheap but your local pet store can recommend a good bird seed, pellets are better though if your bird will eat them. Offer fresh foods (look online for what your species of bird will like) from your fridge. Can't get any cheaper than that.

Thrift stores and garage stores are good for low prices but make sure to SCRUB the cage first.
for two parrakeets a good size cage would be this...23+12+26 cage is a pretty good cage, and a desint deal.

Also this is a good deal I found also...

It's a big sized cage, and you could fit like up to 4-7 parakeets in there for a constit life style. Once you add the toys, and bowls, and perches, and and everyhting, there will still be the perfect amount of room to flap around.

but if you want it REALLY cheap go with...

Try to call up thrift stores in your local area. Get the phone numbers from your phone book under thrift stores. The Salvation Army and other second hand stores might possibly have them. Call before you go though to save on gas. You can also be put on lists at some of these stores, leaving your first name and phone number and the item you are looking for. It is good to have two cages. That way you can always have one already cleaned.

Hi I live in Illinois as well.. Ebay always has cages for sale and real decent prices too. I bought a cage at the Petsmart ( don't know where your at but ) in Crystal lake for my Lovies.. it was on clearance for 150.00.. normally 399.00 it was the end of last summer so if you wait and start looking now you can get a great deal right about when summer ends in a few weeks...Good luck

Look on a website called Craigslist.com. You will find it if you google it or something. It has listings from most major cities in the US.

Anyways it is free, public listings for people selling/giving away things. I have found some AWESOME deals.

Be wary of scammers though.

Garage sales or a local Thrift store. That is where I got my first bird cages when I was in college.
