The anchor was used as an early Christian symbol. It comes from the Scripture where it says, "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure..." (Hebrews 6:19)

The question has been well answered, but one of the commenters made me think of something that may help some people. We are to copy, emulate Christ as closely as possible. The problem is that we never met him while the apostles have. I never could make the image work until I came across and idea on the net. Put together a model of how he would be, even of the people you really admire and add all the qualities you want to have. The mind thinks in pictures and needs an image and likeness to hold on to. We are all his and can see him in each one of us. Thinking of oursleves as that image of God and we are. Think of the other and we repeat that personlity. To be like Jesus we must almost feel we are almost him to feel the way he felt, see the way he saw. Odd but it's personlity changing even, if I can't explain it. In the image and likeness and be that image I guess. Maybe someone has worked it out better.

Isaiah 53:2 says prophetically "he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him." In other words, he was really, really plain and average-looking. You could probably figure out what Jesus looked like by searching for pictures of modern-day people from the Judah or Galilee region. They actually used locals in the Jesus Film as extras and they were very ordinary-looking Arabs. I do think it's insulting to Christians to portray Him as white-skinned and red-haired, but it's not a big deal to me because what's more important is what He was on the INSIDE.

It is called the Mariners Cross, it is not only Latin, it is worn by most mariners who are Christian. The meaning of the anchor is that we are all anchored in faith and the Crucifix is Christ the redeemer and savior, protector of fishers of men.
I hope this helps you out, it is a brief description I am certain that if you type in Mariners Cross on Google you get much more.
God bless and have a great day.

Do we really understand.I mean the symbols, does anyone really know what Christ looks like or what the cross actually looked like.

The cross is for hope, the wheel is guidance and the anchor is stability.

our life in hard situations, we trust he would go deep to any situations in order to help us.
