If you get a vasectomy (male) or tubal ligation (for females), are there any unintended side-effects or risks with the operation that might get you turned down for enlistment? They're probably not going to care that you're sterile, but is there anything else I should know about?

Asking because I was considering both (enlistment and sterilization)

Um. I'm perfectly sane, and not really distinguishable from a "normal" person (note the quotations) save for the fact that I'm sure I don't want kids. (please don't criticize me about that). But if I have to take extra psyche screening, I'll take it.

I agree with the poster above... I don't know of any side-effects of sterilization that would cause a medical DQ, but to make such a permanent decision at such a young age would probably send the potential recruit to psych for an eval.

Tubal ligation is not medically disqualifying. But, a history of such a procedure in a young female may result in additional examination at the enlistment processing center by a psychiatrist.
