How about a bouncing baby girls's first birthday. Then go out and buy those cheapy balls at the grocery store and all the kids can play with them- at any age- and take one home with them. They are $1-2 a piece. They are light so okay to use lightly indoors/outdoors...The cake could be round, and done up like a beach ball...you could play games where the kids have to sit on a ball- for toddlers to balance- or throw them into a can..laundry basket decorated with streamers maybe? The ice cream can get scooped into ball shapes- would be really cute if you had different sherberts and scooped them before the party into a big bowl and refroze so it looks like a bowl of balls....

Hell no your not going over board. It's the lil girls b-day party, and she wants it all in princess, who didn't at that age? C'mon it's her birthday, who cares if the child wheres her little crown and pretends she's a princess. It's her birthday and her day! Tell your friend to be quiet, and stop hatin. What's the big deal. Children are all about play pretending and imagination anyways. Let you daughter have her special day and be the princess I know you've made her feel she is. Ask your friend if next year at your sons b-day party would she have a problem with him dressing up as spider man or something. I just don't get it. Children like to dress up and it's all part of their learning. Your deffinitely not going over board honey, you just a non-supportive friend. Just remind your friend it's your daughters day and not hers.

A one year old can be easily overwhelmed, so make it a small get together. She can tear into gifts (and have more fun with the paper and bags than the toys ;-) ) and eat cake. At this age its more about family gathering to eat good food and watch the baby be oh so cute ;) Make sure to get some keepsake shots of her devouring her cake with a huge grin and one with a party hat on! :D Good luck

Keep it simple. She won't know what's going on or remember it. 1 or 2 simple gifts and the cake with candles would be nice and would be enough. Don't go overboard with decorations, food, gifts, or friends. I think a simple family affair is the nicest way to celebrate one year. And hey, Happy Birthday to her!

I know we always used to make a small cake on the side specifically for the child to tear in to. It makes for some cute pics as long as you don't mind the clean up.

my daughter just turned one on the 1st. we are going to the park, so the bigger kids can play. we are still doing a princess theme. just decorating the tables. the plus to having it outside and not at your house is that you won't have a bunch of people in your house.
