glossy finish is very shiny, and matte is not shiny at all.

As far as which is better... it's personal preference. It really depends on the picture. I usually prefer matte or semi-glossy, which is kind of a cross between the two, but sometimes glossy is nice to bring out the contrast in the picture.

Well glossy finish is just that a glossy finish, it's a shiny finish. Matte is a very flat non-shiny finish (no glare). My personal preference is to use a Matte finish in a contest because I feel they hold less finger prints and there won't be any glare on the picture to distract from the photo. Hope it helps.

Difference Between Glossy And Matte

Matt is usually not shiny at all, glossy is very shiny, and satin finish is a semi glossy finish. It really is a matter of personal preference, but I do like glossy better. The only drawback with glossy is it's very reflective.

Glossy brings out detail and contrast better. Matte is softer, ideal for portraits and weddings. Matte also doesn't show fingerprints as prominently.

I personally don't care for glossy except for on big pics. If you have loose pictures in a pile, beware because they will stick to each other and pull the pic of the paper.

Old film technology is still superior to digital technology as there is more detail in the picture. One day digital film will one day catch up. If you want deep crisp resolution in photographs buy a medium format camera. with good quality film, you will have outstanding photographs.
