Use Parchment Paper...

As others have commented, you should have used parchment paper. However, the cake is still edible. The wax on waxed paper is a food grade wax. The paper is also digestible - not very tasty tho. Wax paper is waxed, equally, on both sides; that one side has glossy finish and the other a matte finish is an artifact of the process of wax application. There is a similar processing artifact on aluminum foil.

BTY - ole' Thomas Alva Edison invented wax paper.

It's important to grease the paper before you pour in the batter.

because you don't use wax paper, you use parchment paper....you've probably melted some of the wax into the cake, and its not edible now

IDK - maybe you should have used partchment paper. Waxed paper tends to have a "glossy" side and foods still stick to it. But partchment paper definitely has a "matte" finish that prevents practically everything from sticking to it.
