Catholics: Are you tired of being confronted about our traditions and being told that we follow the "traditions of men"? Do you find yourself unable to locate & quote the scriptures that support the following of tradition? Do you want to be able to effectively defend your Church's teaching as St. Peter told us to do? (1 Peter 3:15 "...always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you".) Suzanne asked me: "Terry, please quote an early second century written source (or a first century one) confirming the tradition of Mariology"
Okay, here's one:
Irenaeus (year A.D. 189)
"....as the human race fell into bondage to death by means of a virgin, SO IT IS RESCUED BY A VIRGIN. Virginal disobedience has been balanced in the opposite scale by virginal obedience. For in the same way, the sin of the first created man received amendment by the correction of the First-Begotten" (Against Heresies, 5:19:1 [A.D. 189]).

i have used those sources before they are very intersting and usefull. hopefully some ill informed catholics will benefit and hope that some protestants will take the time to read the material aswell, if even only for a better understanding of catholicism. karl keating and scott hahn are 2 of my favorites.
here are some other sources that will help catholics and non catholics alike.

I've actually found the website very helpful when defending the Catholic faith against the "sincere questions" asked by "Christians" which are in reality just thinly veiled propaganda to attack and discredit the Catholic Church. What I have learned is that these people really don't want to learn the truth. That is why they always pick another Catholic basher to give the best answer nod to. I still give the facts and the website though, so people that view the question can actually learn the truth.
And by the way, I am not Catholic- I'm Buddhist. I just feel that when someone is spreading lies about a religion, it is my duty to set the record straight.

wow, the atheist who answered above has more of a grasp on this than people who are supposed to be Christians. Good assessment, "confirmed atheist."

*edit*

Suzanne, actually there are prayers to Mary inscribed in the catacombs....you know...the graves of the early Christians. Maybe you haven't heard of the catacombs...you should go to Rome sometime. I recommend staying at the Hotel Pacific, as it is in walking distance from St. Peter's and it's right down the street from the metro station.

Yeah. Why do you think I became a theologian?

But, never forget, they have free will and if they choose to remain pig ignorant and proud of it, we must respect their choice.

Oh, and it's pax vobisC-U-M. I know, the censor here doesn't like that particular Latin word for in English it IS rather naughty. Sure wish the censor would learn a little more itself.

I think it's sad that you have to defend your beliefs against people that are supposed to believe the same thing you do, especially since they read YOUR holy book and not their own.

Most protestans are ignorant of the richness and fullness of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. If they knew of the grace available through God's established Church, they would join. We need to present them with that truth .

jeremiahjjjjohnson; as a christian (who is not catholic) we do recognize the truth and grace of the gospel. I am sorry to inform you, that there is no purgatory. No middle ground. There is heaven and hell. Your salvation is not dependent upon works. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of god-not by works so that no man can boast." The entire new testament emphasizes that we can not measure up to god's holiness, but it is his grace that has saved us and made us righteous, sealing us until the end of time.
