why does the medical field call their clothing "scrubs"?

Scrubs were originally worn only in surgical settings where everyone has to literally scrub their hands and arms prior to do surgery, thus the name of the clothing. They are comfortable, durable and now can be worn in most clinical settings.

cuz they are disposible and its just for when they "scrub" in on surgery they need to be sterile...including clothes....
