Nearly every culture around the world has a God and some sort of eternal punishment or eternal reward.
Curiously, places that are warm, like the Middle East, believe paradise to be cool, while places that are cold, like Alaska, believe the eternal reward will be in a warm place. Go figure.
But people around the world have some idea of God or Gods.
A good place to start is the writings of Joseph Campell.
