Plenty of times. It is not good for the person with such sorrow to only believe there is only bad in the world. If you can brighten their day and bring them out of their Pitt, that is good. Show them that they too can have happiness if they choose to change their life for the better.

Oh yeah like hearing that someone else has had a happy time really is a comfort when you're in deep sorrow. I'd suggest that there are better ways to provide comfort depending on the circumstances.

both can be shared and i think they should be someone alone needs to be shown happiness so they may overcome sorrow,i dont know if you have ever noticed it or not but when you are around someone happy the feeling rubs off

Yes, I do and did. It is one thing to be happy but another thing to share your happiness with someone who is feeling sad. It helps to ease off their desolation by giving them a moment to forget and a moment to laugh with someone.

I try to cheer ppl up when they are hurting, but it depends on the circumstance. There are times, when ppl just need to cry and no cheering up is recommended. Just be there for the person, help them through the hard time and be a shoulder for them to lean on.

Yes, I always try to cheer people up, when I see them suffering, if I can. I hope that if I am down and depressed someone would do the same for me.
