the trick is if you dog has been peeing for a long time in this area the urine soaks through into the dirt. You need to soak the area with as much vinegar or nature's miracle as there is pee. The smell will not go away if it is still in the soil under the gravel unless you totally drench the area. There most be as much or more product than there has ever been pee.

buy an odor neutralizer from the pet store. usually these are to get rid of the smell on carpet so a dog won't pee there again, but it should work for the gravel. it could get quite costly though, since this stuff isn't priced for large outdoor areas. if you can't find a solution you should probably just get rid of the gravel and replace it with grass.

Ok...no matter what you use, you need to do it OFTEN....especially in the summer. I use a dilute bleach solution, a cup of bleach to a gallon of water. Either dump it around the area, or use a garden sprayer on the hose to dispurse it. Let it sit half and hour and spray it down with the hose. I do this twice a week and have 2 intact male that can be very smelly. It keeps the area clean and fresh smelling all year.

Get some lyme and spread it over the area. Same thing as what they do in old fashioned outhouses. You will probably need to reapply fairly often, won't clean the rocks but will make it smell better. Probably the cheapest option you have.

I had a similar problem. Use "Natures Miralce" . You can get it at PetSmart. It's WONDERFUL!
