So that both of us can exercise.
I have always cooked the way my grandmother did, useing the GOOD FATTNING FOODS and it is difficult for me to know another way to cook but I know reading lables is good but I find that I just do not know how to make good tasteing home cooked meals to lower the "BAD CHOLESTEROL & RAISE THE GOOD CHOLESTEROL"
Can someone give me some ideas what foods do this or a place whereI can get these recipes?

First, make sure you know what her results mean. "Cholesterol ratio" does not in itself have much meaning. Does he mean her bad cholesterol (LDL) is high compared to her good cholesterol (HDL), or the other way around? I'll go ahead and assume her bad cholesterol is too high. A couple of considerations: 1. There are some foods that can lower cholesterol (oatmeal for example), and others that should be avoided (eggs). Assuming that she is eating a healthy diet, make sure she's getting enough exercise. 2. Both parents should have their cholesterol levels checked. There is a genetic condition that raises the cholesterol, and can raise it to dangerous levels. This is called familial hypercholesterolemia. This can make it impossible to control cholesterol with diet and exercise alone, and people with it are put on statins.

I was diagnosed with diabetes last fall and had a heart attack last December at age 43. I have never had high cholesterol but my HDL was low. I had it tested and was about to go on medication for it but then I had the heart attack and have started taking different cholesterol medication. Since then I have made some major changes to my diet. My doctor has told me no bacon, sausage, or pizza. Avoid beef but if you do want to have a hamburger get the very lean kind (I think it is 95 % fat-free). Steak is ok but trim the excess fat off before cooking it. The fat cooks into the meat if you don't trim it first. Turkey and chicken are both ok but you should remove skin from both and limit the amount of dark meat you eat. Absolutely no deep-fried foods of any kind. I use PAM or something like that for skillet frying. Fish can help raise the good cholesterol. Try to eat fish a few days a week.

Buy a cookbook that is based on the glycemic index... I have several (sorry at work or I would put the titles in) that often take everyday foods and tell you how to prepare them to cut down on sugar and fat.
