my great grandmother had 21 children in the country a long time ago
4 of her children died early (2 from the bad flu epidemic, 1 from yellow fever, another fell down a well and broke his back)
it was not as hard to raise them though, she said, because they had (well it is still there but she and my great granps are deceased) a farm with cows (beef & milk), goats, chickens, pigs, fruit and vegetables, guinea fowl, wild game (deer, wild turkey, etc)
farming took up a great deal of their time and energy, with some school in between, although eventually all of them were educated
i don't know how the duggar family does it though

They don't give me the creeps far from it. I think more families should be as loving and sharing as the Duggars. Their children are bright, well mannered and all round good kids. Whats creepy about that? If more families where like them the world would be a better place. Sure 17 is a little much not everyone cup of tea but who is asking anyone else to have 17 kids? Its not as if they are saying this is what everyone should do, they are saying this is what works for us.
I say go Duggars more power to you. Peace!

I think that as long as they have the means to take care of that many children, then what business is it of ours how many they have?
If they can provide them with all they need physically, emotionally and spiritually then more power to them.
The only time it bothers me is when the family relies on the government for assistance. It also bothers me when mothers have several kids with a bunch of different dads, then the kids are left to suffer. These kids have a happy home. They have parents, who I will assume are very much in love.
I would not have that many myself. But let them have them. As long as they can love and care for them, then good for them.

They're Fairly Odd Parents, yes, but they're not welching off the public to support their family or anything like that. They're caring for themselves and not imposing on others for hand outs or help, so if they want to try singlehandedly to repopulate the earth, all the best to them.
As for me, I'll stick to three kids. That's about all I can handle. lol

My grandmother had 21 children. But then again that was back in the day, when contraception was completely unheard of.
But she also would not have been allowed to use contraceptives, as it would have went against her faith, anyhow.
I don't know, I wouldn't do it, all the power to them, I guess.

It is creepy. Why in the world would anyone want to be a breeding machine. What a life. At that point you are nothing more than a dog/horse/cat etc that is used for breeding.

They horrified me for a long time and I would watch those shows over and over...I guess I wanted to desensitize myself to people like this...I called everyone I know and told them to watch the shows too...my Mother reminded me that her Grandma had 13 children and that put it in perspective I guess...I am now over them...

In this day of overpopulation, it just seems irresponsible and egotistical to have that many children. If they wanted that many, I believe there are hundreds of thousands of orphans and special needs kids looking for a home.

Christians on crack!
Only reason why they're not on welfare is because the media has caught hold of this, and shows have been aired about them, upon which, they've undoubtedly profitted.
I'm sure their little redneck church helps out a lot, too, and strongly encourages their overbreeding.

Whoa, that's weird. I was just reading about them on another website. That article said they *only* have 16 kids though.
Any more than two and you're overpopulating.
