So here is the deal. I never eat breakfast. I wake up at 5:00am, work at 6:00am (desk job) and have lunch around 11:30am. I do have my daily cup of coffee..

There is a McDonalds on the way to work. So i am wondering is it better to eat something for breakfast even if it is McDonalds or not to eat anything at all untill 11:30ish.

What would be more damaging and which one would cause me to gain more weight?

If you are only having the McMuffin and no hashbrowns or anything it is better to have the McMuffin! It only has 300 calories which isn't too bad for an entire meal. It also has a lot of protein so you won't get hungry until lunch. By 11:30 you might be really hungry and overeat.

Not eating at all wreaks havoc on your metabolism, so you should eat something, but McDonald's is some of the worst stuff you could possibly put into your system. Almost all of their food is full of fat, calories and cholesterol.

How about bringing some cold cereal with you to work in a small zip lock bag -- or a package of oatmeal if you have access to a microwave? Put some milk with either of those and you should be ok until lunch.

Fruit cups or applesauce may also be another option because you can grab one or two of those and take them with you easily.

The McDonalds Egg McMuffin would cause you to gain more weight in the long run, no doubt! I used to work there and eat their breakfast everyday for a year and gaind 8 pounds!!!Then I stopped working there and eating breakfast there and I lost the weight fast! It would be healthier if you ate a bowl of cereal between 5-6am or a cereal bar /protein bar.

repeat after me: nothing at mcdonalds is a healthy alternative to anything. i wish this place didn't exist, so people like you wouldn't have to feel like it's the only alternative.

eating breakfast is important. but is mcdonalds really the only thing on the way to work? even if you could stop at a bagel place, it would be better. is there a grocery store? run in and get some fruit or reduced fat crackers and hummus. this is what i usually do for food at work. i also keep some packages of instant oatmeal at my desk. this is the perfect breakfast, and all you have to do is add hot water.

If you must eat at MickeyD's, there are better choices available. Grab a yogurt parfait (ditch the granola packet)--made with fruit and vanilla yogurt or try the apple/walnut salad. OJ and plain coffee or low fat milk is available. That breakfast sandwich is loaded with pure crap.

Waiting too long will most likely make you want to eat more, so choose healthier options when out or even pack a brown bag meal to eat on the way.

Breakfast is really the most important meal of the day, because it jump starts your metabolism. I'd say go for the muffin, minus the meat or cheese. Try to start grabbing a box of Kashi or other high fiber & protein bars or some fruit so that you can get in a healthy bite on the way!

There are actually healthy options for breakfast at McDonalds. You just have to look for them. Try a fruit and yogurt parfait or a fruit and walnut salad. They are much healthier that the egg mcmuffin and will help you remain at a healthy weight.
Also, you could try simply buying a box of healthy breakfast bars or grab a milk and bring a packet of instant breakfast to work. Apples or oranges travel well and it would be better for you than just coffee.

Sometimes I make my own egg mcmuffins for breakfast using egg beaters and low-fat cheese. The results: 220 calories and 4.5 grams of fat vs. McDonald's 300 calories and 12 grams of fat.

If you have no time to make one, maybe you can take a peanut butter sandwich made with whole wheat bread and a carton of low-fat milk to work. These ingredients contain a good amount of protein to get your day started.

Also for a coffee treat, stir in some sugar-free hot chocolate.

You have to eat breakfast. McDonald's (I saw an article somewhere) is taking steps to lower the fat content in the McMuffin. So I'd try to keep to the lower fat items on the menu, but breakfast is definitely in.
