For a small upstart companies in the tech world the Open Source a lot of times makes the crucial difference between survival and going under. The profit margins are slim while license costs are most often tailored for big business and unsustainable high. By the way, programmers are not suffering as much as you make it sound, not those who are good anyway.

Absolutely incorrect! Most of the great commercial programs out there started out as open source. What this great vehicle does, is put programmers and developers in touch with people who are prepared to test and comment on the programs. Often, when a program finally becomes bug free and widely accepted, it's removed from the public domain and released as a commercial product. Source Forge has thousands of open source programs under development. Ask any commercial programmer or developer on earth if they hate Source Forge and they will probably tell you "No! I'm a sponsor""

no dude, they are very aware of that, but u got a wrong idea

the world need for programmers will never decrease its always increasing, so open source programmers are just good programmers who maybe didnt found a good job in a big company

another thing, do u know that u can be an open source programmer and earn money, there are some websites that give u the open source program for u to participate and earn money for that!!!!

Linux OS in general is free open source, so y do people buy RedHat enterprise and Suse linux
Also MYSQL Database administrator is free, so y some people buy the full version with full support

Another thing, y do people buy Oracle DBMS (paying thousands of dollars) while MySQL is free open sourced!!!!!!

You mean software programmers, .. engineers, .. support staff, ..developers

Some of the companies are that are releasing open source versions of their software are charging for any and all support. These charges can and will eventually add up to much more than if you purched the licenced version.

This is the way these companies can keep their software programmers, .. engineers, .. support staff, ..developers
employed. It could actually be a boon for a short time to the IT sector.

Good Luck

Not true. Programmers are the ones who create the software. If something becomes open source, that means anyone (programmers included) can create a better product off of the existing one.

In the end (if you're a programmer), open source can beenfit you. You don't need the resources to create a full program... but you can tweak an exiting one to make it better... and then sell that version to whomever you want.

It's extremely doubtful that all software will become free. For example, the Oracle Corporation will probably never make their RDBMS (Oracle) free. Since that's case, mySQL was created as an alternative. The same is true for many vendor specific webserver software packages...thus the creation of Apache httpd.

Opensource gives alternative choice. It also opens up the internet community to improve and share opensource applications.

Competition is good. Opensource gives that competition to computer vendors and others creating software for $s. Without that competition, we'd all be subject to the whims of big $ corporations.

just my thoughts...

Good day!

Often programmers get paid by revenues brought in by the support contracts in place. Open source software often requires you to pay for any support.

That's how Red Hat, Ubuntu and the like don't go out of business in flames.
