People who steal are just too lazy to earn what they want. They are looking for a quick way to get what they want. Unfortunately, until they face some consequence for what they are doing, they will continue to steal. Life sucks sometimes.

well chances are it was someone smacked out on meth that just need fast cash. Running down the street with 2 long boards is awefully hard. If you have renters insurance or home owners you maybe able to make a claim.
It sucks though , I live in chicago and this type of thing happens all the time. I had a friend go into pay for gas and some one smashed his window and ran off with his recently deceased father's guitar. He was inside for 3 minutes at the most.
In the immortal words of Stewie Griffin "DAMN you, Damn you to hell!"

I'm sorry you got victimized. It does hurt.
I think stealing comes from a lack of training, or a lack of attention/love in childhood.
Years ago, my house was broken into while I was at work. They took my tips money that I'd been saving up. About $300. But, worst of all, they went into my dresser drawers. Scattered my underclothes all over the floor. I felt so violated.
Then, the police said they thought my husband must have done it. AS IF! My husband wouldn't steal a crust of bread if he was starving to death. And, my husband knew where I kept the tips, would not have searched thru my drawers. Police never bothered to check it out.

My heart goes out for your friend.
It's very painful to think that there are people around us who believe their and only THEIR needs/wants count.
My opinion of why people steal is for two reasons.
Either they just don't grasp the idea that not everything belongs to them. I used to work with children who were criminally insane and this was how many of them honestly viewed things.
The other excuse is what I think sane people might think.
They steal because they feel they NEED that item more than who their stealing from; and that stealing it is the only way they can obtain it.
Either way I see selfishness as being the root of the cause. It's just my opinion though.

Because people are losers! We had our house broken into by my husband's cousin. It was the worst thing ever! He even took my husband's wedding band that I paid a lot of money for...to probably pawn it. I am pretty sure the pawn shop didn't give him much for it. I always say, what goes around comes around...I am waiting for that day to come to my husband's cousin. Just learn from this...don't leave anything valuable inside a car. Sucks to have to learn this way, but it's part of life I guess.

There really is no explaination for the crummy things people do. I'm sorry that you and your friend had your stuff stolen. I know it feels like a violation.
Sometimes people feel that their entitled to things just b/c they're worse off than others. They feel like it's their right to have just as much as others do even though they don't work for it. They'll take it by any means that they can get it.
It sucks doesn't it. Just appreciate what you do have and the fact that you know right from wrong.

There have been dishonest people for hundreds of years - perhaps since the beginning of the human race. If every human being was a decent honorable person, there would be no wars, no poverty, no racism, no hatred, no homelessness and in the event of natural disaster, those not affected would hasten to the aid of the unfortunate people affected. In the absence of any flaws in the human personality, there would no Big Brother.

There are a lot of good reasons for theft here all ready
I just wanted to say I know how you feel
I had my cell phone stolen out of my jeep from a residence behind a church. You would think that a vehicle would be safe there! I hope you had some kind of insurance!

This one is easy. When people believe in lack or that there is only so much of something it makes or promotes them to steal. When we fully understand that there is plenty of everything and all we have to do is go out and get as you did by working or any honest means then people will not have to steal
