Alma 7:10 includes a prophecy by utilising Alma concerning the start of Christ. The passages places Christ’s start to be in the ‘land of Jerusalem’, somewhat than ‘city of Bethlehem’. The e book of Mormon makes use of the ‘land of Jerusalem’ quite a few situations. Critics have long concluded that it somewhat is information that Joseph Smith became making the e book of Mormon up. As with maximum assaults on the e book of Mormon, an obvious weak spot has grow to be super information for authenticity. The ineffective Sea Scrolls and different recently chanced on historic information from Israel be sure that the word ‘land of Jerusalem’ became an real term used to describe the section around Jerusalem, a community that consists of Bethlehem. Joseph Smith knew that Christ became born in Bethlehem, he became familiar with the Bible and the thoughts of the start of Jesus. If he have been making the e book of Mormon up, why could he have made the style of severe blunder. It is senseless if he have been the author of the e book of Mormon; yet, it makes appropriate experience if he have been in basic terms translating an real historic checklist which used a term hassle-loose to historic human beings.

Are you sure it says IN Jerusalem? Cause it doesn't.
Have a look:
Alma 7:10 And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.
It doesn't say IN, it says AT. Bethlehem is about five miles outside of Jerusalem.
since Bethlehem is never mentioned in the Book of Mormon, it is probably safe to assume that, by the time Alma made this prophecy, people in the New World didn't know Bethlehem from a hole in the wall. They knew of Jerusalem, of course, but not any of it's "suburbs". So, technically, Jesus was born AT Jerusalem.

I wouldn't make such a big issue about this Joseph Smith in his knowledge knew that Jesus wasn't born in Jerusalem. Bring thin up as evidence that the Book of Mormon is a lie is weak at best. One place that has REAL power is the sections of the book of Matthew that are found with in it's pages. How did the writer use the exact same words as Matthew? And just how did the italicized words get included without comment? This is where it is clear that Mr. Smith was doing nothing more than coping from the king James Bible. If you make a study of the BofM you will find that almost 3/4 of the book is either a direct copy of the Old and New Testaments of or a retelling of the same stories where only the name have been change to protect the guilty (Guilty of plagiarism is)... For a long time, Jerusalem referred to the city-state of Jerusalem and surrounding areas, inlcuding Bethelehem, Nazareth, etc. The "Jerusalem as an area" references are not unique to the Mormons, and modern study of the Dead Sea Scrolls (found in 1948) have confirmed this.

Let's just put it this way:
I live in Australia and therefore, deal day to day with the intricate matters of this land - more especially, my state - Victoria.
If I were to refer to something that happened on the other side of the world, especially, when I had never received any news of the area in all my life, i would merely use a term or place name that was akin to it, but more recognized by my audience.
The Book of Mormon was originally words of the Ancient American prophets and other leaders, to the understanding of their people.
The specifics, by comparison with where they lived and their own personal lives, were immaterial - as long as they understood the idea of Christ on the other side of the world - in ancient Israel. That's all they needed to know.

Smith dictated and translated the Book of Mormon by the Holy Power of God and His Divine Inspiration. If the interpretation of the 'caracters' was incorrect, Smith could not continue until the correct translation was written. Cowdery would read back to Smith what he had written, so there was a constant error-checking in place. When finished, the manuscript was proofread by Smith, Cowdrey and the printer. It was and is the most correct book at the time, despite the little 4,000 corrections later applied.
If God screwed up, it's his own damn fault.

To prove that it was translated correctly.
Alma had never been to Judea, he had only read about. If I had never been to Oregon, I might think Salem and Portland were interchangable, like Manhattan and New York. Joseph Smith could have corrected Alma's geographic generalization, but that would had made him an editor and not a translater.

Because the guy who was rewriting the scriptures didn't know them that well. In fact there was two Bethlehems and it was fortold which of these it would be in and that is where he was born. If he wasn't then he wasnt' the true messiah.
Joseph Smith needed to read the details before setting out to change the bible to suit his needs.
He just wanted to justify multiple wives. People will believe anything.

Because the book of Mormon is the meanderings of a 17-year old boy who convinced a friend that when he shoved his face in his hat he could dictate a whole new book and obviously, he hadn't read the true account of Christ's birth. Joe Smith was nothing more than a charlatan.
