She has a very low income. Her property taxes each year come to $1000. I am trying to find an agency that may be able to help. I don't want her to lose her home. That new tax rebate won't help. She would have to pay the full amount before she can get the rebate. She just doesn't have that kind of money. Can anyone give me an idea of who I can contact? Thanks!

RET68 has a great answer! In Washington State most of the counties have Senior Citizen and Disabled Persons Reduction in Property Taxes in which if they are low income (approx under $35,000 a year) they will be afforded a very low property tax rate. Check with the county she lives in. There are many options available for seniors in each state.

Other than going through the charitable avenues, have you considered a mortgage/line of credit. I would suggest a home equity line of credit since she will get the rebate, at which time you can apply it back against the outstanding balance (but she will incur some interest).

This is just a "float" until other monies flow in.

Obviously a "gift" from a family member/friend would be the best help of all.

Contact your area agency on aging - they might have some suggestions.

Any chance family members could help her out, at least until she could get the rebate?

Contact the person or people who will inherit her estate ie. your mother or father. Sell something from the contents of this house to satisfy the payment or sell the house. Why should the government pay for a debt that she
contracted? Maybe you should pay it !
