I need to know if it is possible to have muscle spasms at the site of the amputation that could cause pain?

The reason that I am asking in the health section rather the animal section, is to find out by a human.

Our dog had his leg removed at the shoulder two yrs ago, front, and occasionally he will yelp in pain, and we have to rub the area that was amputated. We didn't know if it was a spasms or the bone or something else.
It happens when he gets excited and jumps around. Maybe twice a month.

sounds like it is a spasm; ask about muscle relaxers or something to calm the nerve at site to your vet.
